Jaguars coach Gus Bradley firms up plans for Chad Henne, Blake Bortles vs. Lions

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley discussed his plans for playing time for Friday night's third preseason game at Detroit following Wednesday's practice. Here are the highlights: -On quarterbacks Chad Henne and rookie backup Blake Bortles: "You could see a quarter and a half with Chad and then a quarter with Blake," Bradley said. "Something like that. I hate to say exact, because it could be depending on reps like it was last week, but that's the idea." -On receiver Cecil Shorts' preseason debut: read more

Preseason Week Two Standouts

A look at the top performers in the Jaguar's 20-19 loss to the Bears. The Offense Blake Bortles He's a lot of fun to watch, isn't he? 11-17 for 160 yards says a lot, but again it's the way he did it that was really impressive. Almost every throw was right on the money. The most impressive even came on an incomplete pass where he rolled out and fired a bullet along the right sideline. Chad Henne had a good performance in the first half, but it was aided by a couple of penalties that kept drives going on third downs. Going forward if Bortles can keep it up against the starters next week it...

The wait to see Jaguars backup quarterback Blake Bortles take practice or game snaps with the starting offense continued Sunday when Chad Henne took all 23 reps in 11-on-11 drills. But the suspense is almost over. “I think he’ll get some reps with the ones [Monday],” coach Gus Bradley said after the Jaguars’ two-hour practice. read more

Jaguars vs. Bears 2014 final score: Blake Bortles, Chad Henne perform well in 20-19 loss

Both Bortles and Henne performed well against the Chicago Bears defense, before a Jordan Palmer-led rally cost the Jaguars the game. Blake Bortles impressed in his preseason debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week and he kept that momentum going on Thursday night, helping to lead the Jaguars to a 19-7 lead against the Chicago Bears before a late rally cost Jacksonville the game. While the rookie garnered most of the attention with his 11-of-17 night for 160 yards including multiple very impressive, Vine-worthy throws, it's hard to say he greatly outperformed Chad Henne. The...

Five points of emphasis for the Jaguars against the Chicago Bears Thursday night:

Five points of emphasis for the Jaguars in their second preseason game at Chicago Thursday night: 1. How Chad Henne plays Henne will again be overshadowed by all the hype surrounding rookie Blake Bortles, but Henne is going to start the first regular season game regardless of how he plays in the preseason. Still, the Jaguars want him to be more consistent than he was in the opener when he didn’t get much help from the rest of the offense. 2. Mike Brewster’s snaps read more

Gus Bradley: Chad Henne will play entire first half vs. Bears

No. 3 overall draft pick Blake Bortles may have outplayed Chad Henne, but that doesn't mean the rookie is going to cut into any of the veteran's reps against the Bears. Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley is going to give veteran Chad Henne every opportunity to cement his place as the regular season starter, and that includes playing the entire first half against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. #Jaguars blog: Gus Bradley says Chad Henne will play entire first half vs. Chicago on Thursday. http://t.co/IbPJbIgNLy — Hays Carlyon (@HaysCarlyon) August 12, 2014 According to Hays...

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley says Chad Henne will play first half vs. Bears on Thursday night

Bradley said Henne will play the entire first half against the Bears, before rookie Blake Bortles takes over in the second half. Henne was 4-of-7 passing for 30 yards in Friday night's 16-10 win over Tampa Bay in the preseason opener.Bortles was 7-of-11 passing for 117 yards with three catchable balls dropped. read more

What to expect from Week 2 preseason game vs. Bears

There's a lot of differences between the two squads from last year's preseason and the one that just defeated the Buccaneers. But if head coach Gus Bradley approaches Thursday night's game in the same way he did in Week 2 last season, what can we expect? It's difficult to compare last year's Jaguars team with this year's. Through the first week of the preseason, the defense looks better at the top and has enough depth to cut guys that would have contributed last season. The offense will be quarterbacked by the same guy, but Chad Henne is looking over his shoulder at a player in Blake...

Gus' challenge: Getting Henne ready and Bortles playing time

Gus' challenge: Getting Henne ready and Bortles playing time

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley was in rare hem-and-haw mode after his team’s 16-10 win over Tampa Bay tonight. The topic was the quarterback position. Blake Bortles was 7-of-11 for 117 yards spanning the second and third quarters. Three of his four incompletions were drops. Chad Henne was 4-of-7 for 30 yards. Bradley was asked twice about Bortles earning the opportunity to get practice and/or game reps with the starters after his debut performance. I asked first and was direct as can be: Next week in practice or at Chicago, would Bortles get first-team reps? read more

50 best plays of 2013 - No. 8: Ryan Davis' game-winning INT vs. Texans

We're counting down the 50 best plays of 2013. Who made it to No. 8? Ryan Davis and a "backyard type" interception to win the game at Houston. In the 50 days leading up to the preseason opener between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, we're counting down the 50 best plays of 2013. Yesterday at No. 9 was Chad Henne's 62-yard touchdown to tight end Danny Noble... on fourth down. Even more incredibly, it was his first catch of the season. In at No. 8? A circus catch of an interception from Ryan Davis to win the game against the Houston Texans. Even Davis could barely...

Chad Henne has more freedom in Jaguars offense

Chad Henne is entering his second season in Jedd Fisch's Jaguars offense, which means he has a bit more freedom with the plays. Chad Henne is entering his second season in Jedd Fisch's offense and his first season starting out as the Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback. This means Henne knows  what to expect from Fisch and the things Fisch looks to attack on offense, but it also means he has a bit more freedom in the offense now. "We’re in day three, so it’s too early to say, but it’s just about coming back and getting better every day," Henne told reporters on Sunday when...
