This certainly came out of nowhere... The Chicago Bears announced that safety Chris Conte has had surgery and will be out 4-5 months. The Chicago Bears have announced that last year's starting free safety, Chris Conte, underwent shoulder surgery in late March. The timetable for his return is between four and five months. This could be why the Bears loaded up on the position in free agency by bringing in M.D. Jennings, Ryan Mundy and Danny McCray, and why they re-signed Craig Steltz. Unstable became more even more wobbly with regards to the safety position headed into 2014 on Thursday, when the Chicago Bears announced Chris Conte would miss four to five months after having shoulder surgery. The setback comes at a difficult time for Conte, who after a subpar 2013 campaign, finds himself in the position where he’ll have to compete to keep his starting job next season.
