Patriots WR Brandin Cooks absolutely scorches slower defensive backs

Patriots WR Brandin Cooks absolutely scorches slower defensive backs

The Patriots have a nice schedule of slow opposing defensive backs. The New England Patriots added a speedy wide receiver this offseason in Brandin Cooks, who ran a 4.33s 40 yard dash at his combine back in 2014. And while Cooks isn’t the fastest receiver that QB Tom Brady has had the fortune to throw to, he adds a home run element to the offense with more versatility than Chris Hogan. While Hogan was a big threat down the field, Cooks offers yards after the catch ability on crossing patterns and other routes closer to the line of scrimmage. The two can also join TE Rob Gronkowski and...

Chris Hogan working as Patriots' third receiver

New England Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan was routinely working as the third receiver in three-wide sets at minicamp. What It Means: Malcolm Mitchell should be in the mix for snaps, but Hogan appears to have a stranglehold on the gig for now. He is coming off a 1,000-yard first season in New England including the playoffs. However, Hogan saw more than five targets in a game just once last regular season. Our models project Hogan to finish 2017 with 543 receiving yards and 3.02 touchdowns on 35 receptions. Source: Rotoworld.com

Team Talk Behind the scenes of a Dont’a Hightower, Chris Hogan, and James White photoshoot WATCH: Patriots talk about what the Super Bowl ring means to them Local Links WEEI’s Alex Reimer watched Tom Brady join Tony Robbins, where Brady ripped his own performance at practice: Brady: “I left practice today, this is my 18th offseason, and we're on the field for two and a half hours. I walked off the field and I thought, 'I am the worst quarterback in the NFL. How could I have possibly made those throws? It was so dumb...

Don’t be surprised if this Patriots WR is the odd man out

Don’t be surprised if this Patriots WR is the odd man out

Ready your hot-take fire extinguishers. Well, here it goes... Danny Amendola is more of a roster lock than Chris Hogan. Sure, I realize the take has some warmth to it, but think of it like stepping into a sauna — the initial wave of heat seems overwhelming, but once you get settled in, you start to understand the appeal. First, let me state that I do believe both guys are making the 53-man roster. I’m simply making the argument that if someone has to go, it won’t be #80. Next, a quick account of the current wide receiver personnel in Foxborough, listed alphabetically in an attempt...

Patriots Journal: Julian Edelman agrees to multi-year contract extension

FOXBORO — From an outsider's perspective, it looked like Julian Edelman’s days were numbered in Foxboro. As the 31-year-old entered a contract year, the Patriots traded for 23-year-old Brandin Cooks to bolster their receiving depth chart. With Cooks in the fold, along with Malcolm Mitchell and Chris Hogan, the Patriots have gotten younger at the wide out position. After seeing how the situation with [... [...]

Could Patriots WR Julian Edelman see more time in the slot?

Could Patriots WR Julian Edelman see more time in the slot?

The Patriots wide receiver could become more of a slot receiver moving forward. The New England Patriots have a trio of wide receivers in Julian Edelman, Brandin Cooks, and Chris Hogan that can play both on the sideline and in the slot. Add in tight end Rob Gronkowski and running back James White and you have an offense that will be brutal to defend. When I was looking at Tom Brady’s performance in 2007 and comparing it to his potential in 2017, I noticed how essential Wes Welker was to the offensive success coming out of the slot. I also pointed out that Cooks and Hogan are outstanding...
Rainy conditions create 'perfect day' for Patriots practice

Rainy conditions create 'perfect day' for Patriots practice

FOXBORO -- Before Thursday’s Patriots practice, Bill Belichick called it the “perfect day” due to the wind, rain and cool temperatures. The elements created a tricky environment for anyone trying to catch a football. During team drills, Devin Lucien (two), Brandon Bolden, James Develin and Chris Hogan all had dropped passes. Drops accounted for five of the three quarterbacks’ 14 incompletions during the day.

Will WR Julian Edelman take less money in 2018 to stay with the Patriots?

Will WR Julian Edelman take less money in 2018 to stay with the Patriots?

The Patriots wide receiver will be a free agent after this season. Will he sign an extension to remain in New England? The New England Patriots are preparing for life after WR Julian Edelman and will head into 2018 with Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan, and Malcolm Mitchell at wide receiver, Rob Gronkowski and Dwayne Allen at tight end, and James White and Mike Gillislee at running back. They will be fine on offense with or without Edelman. But there’s no question that the Patriots offense would be better with QB Tom Brady’s favorite target still in the lineup. Edelman turned 31 years of age...
