Christian Ponder officially joins Raiders, Matt Schaub days in Oakland numbered

While the free agency period is not playing out exactly as many expected, there are a few more predictable moves the team either has made or will make. One such move was adding a veteran backup quarterback. And the most obvious choice was Christian Ponder due to his ties with Raiders offensive coordinator, Bill Musgrave. Ponder's signing was made official today. With his addition, another expected move should happen in short order -- the release of Matt Schaub. Schaub carries a $5.5 million salary, all of which counts against the salary cap this season. This after carrying an $8 million cap...

Raiders add backup quarterback in Ponder

The Raiders agreed to terms with backup quarterback Christian Ponder on a one-year deal on Friday, league sources said. He is reunited with offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, who was with Ponder in Minnesota from 2011-13. Ponder, 27, was the Vikings’ first-round draft pick in 2011, and was 14-21-1 as a starter. He completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 6,658 yards and 38 touchdowns, but had 36 interceptions and 11 fumbles. Also, Raiders owner Mark Davis denied reports that the team was negotiating with free agent defensive end Greg Hardy. Hardy remains on the commissioner’s exempt...

Report: Raiders hosting former Vikings QB Christian Ponder

Even with Derek Carr in place as the Raiders starting quarterback, it was expected they would look into adding a veteran backup. Christian Ponder era in Minnesota ready to officially end as Vikings have shown no recent interest

By Chris Tomasson ctomasson@pioneerpress.com Not that it’s any great revelation, but the Christian Ponder era now appears really to be over in Minnesota. A source said Saturday the Vikings have not shown any recent interest in Ponder. So barring a very surprising change of thought, his Minnesota tenure officially will end when he becomes a free agent Tuesday. Ponder was taken with the No. 12 pick in the 2011 draft and was Minnesota’s primary starter from 2011-13. He did lead the Vikings to the playoffs in 2012 but that mainly was because Adrian Peterson ran for 2,097 yards that season....
