Lions practice observations: CB Slay suffers a scare

Rookie Larry Webster had a good day in one-on-one pass-rush drills, while both players competing for the starting right tackle job - Corey Hilliard and LaAdrian Waddle - struggled some. Webster blew past tight end Jacob Maxwell from a wide-nine technique in his first rep of the period and pushed back Hilliard with a good power move to close the period. Jason Jones beat Hilliard twice in the span of a few rushes with the same move, faking inside and then motoring past Hilliard's outside shoulder.

Corey Hilliard, LaAdrian Waddle both getting No. 1 reps at right tackle

The Detroit Lions are giving both Corey Hilliard and LaAdrian Waddle a shot at winning the starting right tackle job. It appears that there is indeed a legitimate position battle taking place at right tackle. After LaAdrian Waddle became the Detroit Lions' full-time starter at the position midway through the 2013 season, it was expected that he would continue to be the full-time starter in 2014.
