Dalvin Cook, Everson Griffen held out of Wednesday's Vikings practice

Even though running back Dalvin Cook donned a helmet and went through warmups with his teammates during the start of Wednesday’s practice, the Vikings ultimately held him out after suffering a hamstring injury on Sunday in Green Bay. Cook was one of five Vikings to not practice Wednesday, including defensive end Everson Griffen (knee), tight end David Morgan (knee), right tackle Rashod Hill (ankle) and punt returner Marcus Sherels (ribs). We’ll get more clarity on Cook’s status for Sunday against the Bills depending on his level of participation during practices on Thursday and...

‘Premier back’ Dalvin Cook eager to show his stuff for Vikings at Lambeau Field

Dalvin Cook will face the Packers for the first time Sunday at Lambeau Field. Cook was a rookie last season, but tore his left ACL in Week 4 and didn’t play against […]

For Vikings’ Dalvin Cook, first game back more about catching ball than running it

For Vikings’ Dalvin Cook, first game back more about catching ball than running it

Vikings running back Latavius Murray slipped into Stefon Diggs’ postgame media session Sunday and pretended to be a reporter. “You were the third-leading receiver today behind Dalvin Cook. How do you think he caught the ball?” Murray asked. In Minnesota’s 24-16 season-opening victory over the San Francisco 49ers at U.S. Bank Stadium, Cook caught six […]

San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings: Third quarter open thread

At halftime, the Vikings lead the 49ers 10-3. Kirk Cousins has looked really good so far. He connected with Stefon Diggs on a 22 yard TD pass early in the second quarter to give the Vikings a 10-0 lead. He’s 14-20 for 165 yards and a TD, along with a couple of nifty runs. The 49ers answered the Diggs TD with a 40 yard field goal from Robbie Gould, and on the ensuing drive, the Vikings were driving but that ended on a Dalvin Cook fumble that was recovered by Richard Sherman. The Vikes defense seemed to hold, until a stop on 3rd and 1 was nullified due to a false start penalty by SF. The...

From Adrian Peterson to Dalvin Cook, ACL recoveries have come a long way

Six years ago, when Adrian Peterson returned from a torn ACL in just under nine months to start the Vikings’ Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, his comeback was considered a miracle of modern science. And what Peterson did that season, after rehabbing with Russ Paine in Houston, still stands out as one of the great feats in the modern NFL: 2,097 yards, 13 rushing and receiving touchdowns and a MVP award as the Vikings went from 3-13 to 10-6 and a playoff berth. Peterson’s comeback also had the effect of demystifying ACL recovery to some degree, and perhaps that’s why few have...

Vikings OC John DeFilippo confident Dalvin Cook can 'carry the load'

The Vikings put Dalvin Cook in his only NFL games for 169 of 235 possible plays [72 percent] in the first quarter of last season. While Cook has been honest about the difference of full practices and being in “game shape” after his ACL recovery, the Vikings are going to keep that in mind as they apparently plan to give him all he can handle in Sunday’s opener against the 49ers, according to offensive coordinator John DeFilippo. “We’ll see how it goes. There’s nothing that hasn’t told us that he can’t carry the load,” DeFilippo said Thursday when asked if Cook would be on a...

Vikings Dalvin Cook says he is ready for San Francisco 49ers

And we are ready for him Dalvin Cook’s first game back was a blink and you missed it preseason moment against the Seattle Seahawks. He carried the ball twice for one yard which doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you’ve been out for a full year with a torn ACL, it tells you that you are ready for the first regular season game. Cook spoke with the Pioneer Press about his return. “I got it out of the way and now it’s time for me to hone in on what we’re doing as an offense. My knee is fine. It’s ready to go. I’m ready to play.” His emotions are all over the place right now as...
