Hawks sign ex-pro hoops player as TE prospect

Seahawks Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune — First reported on the league’s web site, I can confirm that the Seattle Seahawks plan to sign Darren Fells, the younger brother of New England tight end Daniel Fells, to a contract. The deal is expected to become official on Wednesday. According to the report, Fells, 26, worked out for Seattle at the team’s facility today, and Seahawks’ brass were impressed enough by the workout to ink Fells to a three-year deal. Hoomanawanui & restricted FAs

New England Patriots Blog | ESPN Boston — INDIANAPOLIS -- Early-season injuries to both Aaron Hernandez and Daniel Fells left the Patriots shorthanded at tight end, leading them to sign Michael Hoomanawanui off the Redskins practice squad shortly after he was released by the Rams. The move may have first appeared to be a stopgap option while Hernandez and Fells recovered, but "Hooman" eventually became an important offensive piece with Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski battling injuries for much of the year, and Fells not coming along from a performance standpoint like the team had hoped.
