May 21, 2013The Huddle Miami Dolphins rookie RB Mike Gillislee is expected to compete with RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas for the starting running back job during offseason workouts and training camp. Huddle Up: The 208-pound Gillislee, a fifth-round selection out of in-state Florida, isn't as fast as Miller or as big as Thomas (230 pounds), but he's a solid combo of the 2 incumbents and definitely will have his shot at the No. 1 job with neither of the vets having asserted themselves so far in their brief time in the league.

May 15, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy The Miami Herald reports that Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas expects to compete for the starting job even though Lamar Miller is considered the front-runner. “I don’t know why [Miller] would have the inside track,” Thomas said. “It’s an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up. I’m looking to be that guy…. That’s why I put the work in.” Thomas said he trained in Arizona with other players including Tim Tebow, Terrell Suggs, LaRon Landry and James Harrison: “I wanted to get my legs back stronger [after knee surgery],” he said...

The Phinsider There are a couple of natural knocks against Daniel Thomas and his style of running. First, he'll rarely make anyone miss in open space. Second, he's not the bruising back most expected him to be coming out of Kansas State, nor is he a particularly elusive back, making him somewhat of an undefined 'tweener in an offense that focuses on creating matchup problems for the defense. But neither of those reasons properly explain why Thomas has only managed to average 3.5 yards per carry in his time in Miami. Nor do his tangibles; Thomas has shown he has burst getting through the hole, fluid ...
Miami Dolphins May 9, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy In the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft the Dolphins added University of Florida running back Mike Gillislee, who is 5-foot-11, 207 pounds. The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that Gillislee will compete with Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas, Marcus Thigpen and Jonas Gray for the starting spot vacated by Reggie Bush. Gillislee spent most of his career at Florida as a backup but started 11 games in his senior season, rushing for 1,152 yards and scored 10 rushing touchdowns. "I'm a complete back," said Gillislee, who was projected as a fourth-round pick. "I'm a good competitor." He rushed for 2,0...
April 27, 2013FFToolbox.com It's pretty clear that Lamar Miller will be the Dolphins' starting running back this season. That leaves Daniel Thomas with the short-yardage and goal-line work. But even that may be taken away from him. According to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, "The Dolphins are concerned about Thomas' durability, and his ability to be the big, physical goal-line runner this offense needs. The Dolphins will likely add another young back or two via the draft." Thomas hasn't played in more than 13 games in either of his first two seasons. FANTASY ANALYSIS: People might read into this and think ...

The report says Ireland "wants to see both elevate their game" this year. "I have a high degree of excitement [in them]," Ireland said. "I hope Reggie has a great career, but at some point you have to turn over the baton. I like the youth at the position. I like the explosiveness at the position." March 22, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said from the NFL Owners Meeting that if Daniel Thomas wants to be a bigger factor on offense, he needs to stay healthy and play well consistently. "It’s hard for players to really make the type of development you’d like them to make if they are not able to stay healthy," Philbin said. "[C]oaches value practice time, so if you’re not making progress and you’re injured, then you’re kind of slipping back. ... [I]f you look at him, we've got to eliminate the fumbling, he had one or two mental errors at critical times and I’m not saying he’s the only player that had...
