Get ready for Chris Baker and DeSean Jackson as Buccaneers get HBO's Hard Knocks

The Redskins won't be featured on the 2017 version of HBO's Hard Knocks, but two of their prominent former players will surely get airtime this summer.

2017 NFL Mock Draft: Trades and grades for the Buccaneers

2017 NFL Mock Draft: Trades and grades for the Buccaneers

Three mock drafts for the Bucs in this week’s edition. In yesterday’s 2017 NFL mock draft, Dan Kadar suggests the Buccaneers draft Miami tight end David Njoku. As we’ve been saying over and over again, that would make a lot of sense. Although the Buccaneers have Cameron Brate, the other tight ends on the roster leave a lot to be desired. Fielding an offense with Brate, Njoku, Mike Evans, and DeSean Jackson on the field at the same time would give Tampa one of the league’s top receiving groups. It also lines up with what Bill Barnwell wants the Bucs to do in his all-trades mock:...

Jameis Winston calls DeSean Jackson “a Bentley with a Ferrari engine”

Jameis Winston calls DeSean Jackson “a Bentley with a Ferrari engine”

He’s fast, is what Winston’s saying. Here’s a new metaphor for you: DeSean Jackson is a Bentley with a Ferrari engine. That’s what Jameis Winston said in his press conference today, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers start their offseason program. I’m not sure what that means or how that metaphor works. Why is he not just a Ferrari with a Ferrari engine? What’s the ‘Bentley’ adding there? Ferrari implies speed while Bentley mostly just implies luxuriousness. Is DeSean Jackson luxurious? Explain your confusing metaphors, Winston! More seriously, Winston also noted that he traveled...

NFL Draft 2017: The Buccaneers don’t need to fix the backfield

NFL Draft 2017: The Buccaneers don’t need to fix the backfield

The Bucs could upgrade their running backs, but they’re fine as is, too. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a pretty good offseason. Arguably the best in the NFC South so far. That’s what NFL.com’s Chris Wesseling thinks, arguing that the Bucs had an outstanding showing in free agency by adding DeSean Jackson and Chris Baker. He also focuses on what the Bucs have to do for the rest of this offseason, and he thinks it’s fixing the running back situation. What's going on in the backfield? Adrian Peterson has a hankering for Tampa, but the Bucs seem content to gamble on suspended...

Buccaneers look at speed with 2017 NFL draft visits

Buccaneers look at speed with 2017 NFL draft visits

The Bucs need speed, and they know it. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers seem to committed to adding speed to their team this offseason. Not only did they already sign wide receiver DeSean Jackson, one of the fastest receivers in the NFL, they’ve shown interest in a number of speedy draft prospects as well. We can now add one more name to that list: Ohio State’s Curtis Samuel, who ran a 4.31-second 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine earlier this year. That was the third-fastest time at the combine this year, for what it’s worth. #OSU S Malik Hooker, a top draft prospects, is...

Buccaneers got good value for money in free agency

Buccaneers got good value for money in free agency

Football Outsiders likes what the Bucs did in terms of contracts and quality. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a pretty small but very efficient footprint in free agency. Most notably, they signed defensive tackle Chris Baker and wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Football Outsiders did their advanced stats/contracts thing and analyzed which signings were the best value for money, according to their metrics—which, to be honest, are pretty dubious in this case. Forecasting is hard with crude measures of quality like AV. Still, they think the Bucs had two really good signings: defensive tackle...
