Angelo on QBs, Wright and pass protection

Chicago Bears Blog | ESPN Chicago — CLEVELAND -- Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo met with the media Thursday in the press box at Browns Stadium. Here are a few highlights from that session: The Bears will keep three quarterbacks (Jay Cutler, Todd Collins, Caleb Hanie) and four tight ends (Greg Olsen, Desmond Clark, Brandon Manumaleuna, Kellen Davis) on the final 53-man roster, according to Angelo. Bears look to reduce mental mistakes

Chicago Bears Blog | ESPN Chicago — LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Physical mistakes on the football field are unavoidable. It's the mental mistakes that tend to get players cut and coaches fired. Busted plays, blown assignments, bad reads, poor communication; the Bears experienced every sort of mental breakdown possible against Arizona. Luckily, it's still the preseason, but time is of the essence. "I had a bunch of them, so let's start with me," Bears veteran Desmond Clark said Monday. Clark's new Bears duties anything but a snap

Bears Blog | Chicago Breaking Sports — By Brad Biggs You are going to have to watch an awful lot of football to see a kicker called for intentional grounding again. That is what happened when the Bears' Robbie Gould wound up with the ball on a 38-yard field goal attempt that was botched Saturday night when fill-in long snapper Desmond Clark bounced the snap to holder Brad Maynard. Gould just threw the ball away, resulting in a 14-yard penalty. Clark botched the first two snaps for kicks, one on an extra point, and was also off on a punt snap as he was forced into duty with Pat Mannelly sidelined with a neck stinger suffered last...

Pompei: 2nd-quarter Bears-Raiders observations

Bears Blog | Chicago Breaking Sports — The Bears lead the Raiders 14-13 at the half. Here are some of my observations so far. • Never knew the Bears' MVP was long snapper Patrick Mannelly. He's out with a neck stinger. • I wasn't even sure how to spell his name. • It's a good thing Desmond Clark can run, catch and block because he sure can't long snap. • Can any of our readers long snap? • Jay Cutler's teammates aren't giving him a lot of help tonight. Between catchable balls that have been dropped (four) and pass rushers getting free, it's been tough for Cutler to complete a pass. He di...
