Yes, timely penalties came to the rescue for those in pursuit of the Vince Lombardi Trophy and, of course, they absolutely shattered Super Bowl dreams for the offending teams. The first of these referee-to-the-rescue instances occurred Saturday at the Georgia Dome between the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons. With Seattle leading 10-7 early in the second quarter, future Hall of Famer Devin Hester returned a punt 80 yards all the way to Atlanta’s 7-yard line.

NFL highlights video of Seahawks-Falcons ignores crucial penalty on Kevin Pierre-Louis

For me, the Seattle Seahawks season ended when Kevin Pierre-Louis was called for a penalty on an Atlanta Falcons punt. The punt originally resulted in a long return by Devin Hester. Instead, it was called back, the Seahawks were placed at their own 4 (isn’t it interesting too that instead of a re-kick on a penalty that occurred at the line of scrimmage, they added it to the beginning of a run that should’ve never happened, if you think about it logically?) and Russell Wilson was tripped by his own teammate, resulting in a safety. Seattle led 10-7 before the safety. If the Hester call...

Devin Hester Says He’s Retiring After Two Games with the Seahawks

Signed by the Seahawks just before the playoffs, return specialist Devin Hester said Saturday’s divisional-round loss to the Falcons would be his last game, the Associated Press reports. If so, the 34-year-old went out in style. He returned five kickoffs for 194 yards, including a 78-yarder, in Seattle’s 36-20 loss. His most dynamic play was […] The post Devin Hester Says He’s Retiring After Two Games with the Seahawks appeared first on Seahawks Gab.

Former Chicago Bears’ great Devin Hester, who was named a 1st Team All Pro three times as a Bear, may have played the final game of his career on Saturday night in Atlanta. The 34 year old Hester, who was picked up by the Seattle Seahawks on January 3rd, was feeling very spry against the Falcons as he had a 78 yard kickoff return, a 50 yard kickoff return and a 80 yard punt return called back on a penalty. His spark in the return game wasn’t enough as the Seahawks lost 36 to 20. After the game Hester said he probably would never play again, saying “I told my wife this is pretty much...

Seahawks-Falcons final score: Atlanta beats down Seattle by a score of 36-20

As the clock has finally hit zero, the Atlanta Falcons have earned a win over the Seattle Seahawks, advancing to the NFC Championship. The beginning of this matchup played out better than the Seahawks could have ever dreamed of. A sustained touchdown drive to open the contest? We haven’t seen something like that from this team in a long while. The following drive, the Falcons marched down the field and answered with a touchdown of their own to Julio Jones. A big kick return by the ageless Devin Hester set Seattle up in great position to score, but a missed throw by Russell Wilson forced...

A penalty wipes out a long punt return by Devin Hester, but that was only the beginning of the Seahawks' troubles during that sequence.
