What to look for as Atlanta Falcons OTAs wrap up today

A guide to the close of OTAs and looking ahead to Falcons minicamp The Falcons are wrapping up OTAs today, which means we are getting very close to training camp, which is the next best thing to preseason, which is the next best thing to regular season football. Hooray! Here's what you should be looking for today: Injury progress of any kind. Devonta Freeman was out with a mild strain and should be back for minicamp, but we're still waiting to see Adrian Clayborn, Grady Jarrett, Devin Hester, and Chris Chester return to the field. I'd settle for some hopeful reports about those guys,...

Falcons news we want to hear: Updates on Chris Chester, Devin Hester, and Grady Jarrett

The three Falcons dealing with long-term injuries are the ones to keep your eye on this week. The Atlanta Falcons are approaching June minicamp (open to the public!) relatively healthy. What would really enhance my piece of mind is if we found out that the team was fully healthy, though, and we should get an update sometime this week. The three names to know here are Grady Jarrett (knee tendinitis), Chris Chester (offseason surgery), and Devin Hester (offseason surgery). There's no particular indication that Jarrett or Chester is going to miss training camp time, but until we get progress...

New York Giants Dwayne Harris loves new touchback rule

Giants' returner thinks it will lead to more returns, not less Devin Hester, perhaps the best return man in NFL history, is on record as being against the new kickoff rule, which will see touchbacks brought out to the 25-yard line rather than the traditional 20. The New York Giants also have one of the best kick returners in the league in Dwayne Harris, and Harris is thrilled by the change. "I love it. I think it’s a good rule, it’s going to give me more chances to return the ball," Harris said after a recent OTA. "A lot of people are going to try to keep the ball out of the end zone,...

Chiefs' Dave Toub: Tyreek Hill's 4.25 speed is real

Sounds like Tyreek Hill will have a good shot to win the Kansas City Chiefs punt returner job. Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub recently gushed about Hill's speed and returning ability, saying he has some Devin Hester-ish ability. “He’s a really good catcher," Toub said via quotes from the Chiefs. "He makes people miss. He’s got that great agility, great quickness, great first-step quickness. His top speed is second to none. That 4.25 speed is real. That’s one thing we’ve learned over the last month. He’s got legitimate speed. It doesn’t take much for you to see...

Falcons offseason grade: Pro Football Focus hands out a middling mark

Nuts to PFF, you say? Read on. Pro Football Focus hasn't liked much the Falcons have done this offseason, so it's no great surprise that their assessment of the team isn't fantastic. It's heavily dragged down by PFF's assessment of the draft class. Here's a few relevant snippets from the article, which you should of course go read. The Falcons get a C overall. One of the issues the offense faced during the second half of 2015 was a lack of production at wide receiver outside of superstar Julio Jones. Devin Hester’s turf-toe injury shelved his season after one snap, and White’s 43...
