The Falcons certainly looked like contenders versus the Chiefs

The Falcons certainly looked like contenders versus the Chiefs

Yeah, it’s hard not to get excited about this team right now. The Atlanta Falcons took the Kansas City Chiefs to town Friday night when it counted. Boy howdy, do the Dirty Birds look good right now. Real, real good. But remember when they looked bad last week? What on Earth am I supposed to feel right now? Well, you feel that inescapable pang of preseason, when the dreamlike euphoria of watching Matt Ryan and crew drive down with ease without Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman on a decent-enough Kansas City Chiefs defense collides with the sight of watching a Deion Jones-less Falcons...

Five things to watch when the Falcons play the Chiefs on Friday night

Falcon fans need to hit the low-priced concession stand early and be in their seats on time if they want a glimpse of wide receiver Julio Jones and running back Devonta Freeman.

Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman will make season debuts against Chiefs

Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman will make season debuts against Chiefs

Looks like the duo will see the field Friday. For those sad that Falcons WR Julio Jones and RB Devonta Freeman didn’t get any action last week, you’re in luck. Dan Quinn has given them the green light to join in on the preseason fun for Friday’s bout with the Kansas City Chiefs. Dan Quinn said Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman will be available vs. Chiefs but implied they will play very little, if at all— vaughn mcclure (@vxmcclure23) August 15, 2018 As, er, you are well aware, Jones got to summer activities late in the process, which might be why the team is easing him back...

Matt Bryant will be a game-time decisions for Friday night’s tilt against the Chiefs

It’s not the worst news for the veteran kicker, though we hope he’s fully healthy soon. Atlanta’s heading into Friday night’s game pretty healthy, which is the most important thing in preseason. Hopefully they’ll leave that game equally healthy, and with Matt Bryant ready to go for the third preseason game. At the moment, Bryant is the only player who may not suit up Friday night for health-related reasons, though I still wouldn’t be shocked if the Falcons held out Julio Jones and/or Devonta Freeman again, just to be safe. #Falcons PK Matt Bryant to be game-day decision ...

Thomas Dimitroff and the well-oiled front office machine

Through careful planning and number crunching, Thomas Dimitroff and the front office have been able to re-sign everyone. The Atlanta Falcons have made great strides since those mediocre to awful seasons in 2013 and 2014, basically rebuilding their entire foundation through incredibly savvy draft selections and free agent signings. Between 2013 and 2018, the Falcons have added the following players via the draft: Desmond Trufant, Robert Alford, Jake Matthews, Devonta Freeman, Ricardo Allen, Vic Beasley, Tevin Coleman, Grady Jarrett, Keanu Neal, Deion Jones, De’Vondre Campbell, Austin...

Falcons vs. Jets recap: Preseason football at its ugliest still helps Atlanta

Falcons vs. Jets recap: Preseason football at its ugliest still helps Atlanta

The Falcons have a lot more to go on for their position battles than they did Friday morning. The purpose of preseason games, as you well know, is not to win. Winning feels nice for about five minutes, but if you haven’t gotten a good look at your team and started to evaluate your 90 man roster as a result of that, then a preseason game has done you absolutely zero good. That’s the cheeriest note I can sound after the Falcons “treated” us to four quarters of objectionable football in a game where Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman sat, Matt Ryan threw one pass, and the starters got...

Atlanta Falcons vs. New York Jets halftime update and open thread

Atlanta Falcons vs. New York Jets halftime update and open thread

It happens every year, but the Atlanta Falcons have started out slow. Hello darkness my old friend. We typically enter preseason cautiously optimistic to see the Atlanta Falcons dominating their opponent. That usually doesn’t happen, and instead we see defensive breakdowns and an anemic offense. We have been reminding you all week that preseason doesn’t matter. We see this every preseason, then the Falcons turn it on during the season. The Falcons started without two of their biggest offensive weapons: Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman. How did we get to 17-0 against the Jets? Matt Ryan...

Devonta Freeman, Julio Jones won’t play tonight against the Jets

Devonta Freeman, Julio Jones won’t play tonight against the Jets

A coach’s decision, I guess? If you were really hoping to see Devonta Freeman and Julio Jones for like, I dunno, five snaps, you’re out of luck. The team has included both players on their list of inactives for the Friday night tilt against the Jets, alongside injured Falcons Matt Bryant and Ty Sambrailo. That leaves 86 other players to suit up. Opportunity follows in the wake of all these inactives, as you might imagine. With no Julio, the Falcons’ young receivers will get in the game even more quickly and at least one of them will get a handful of extra snaps to prove himself....

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman says the NFL’s new helmet rule ‘not my rule’

One of the biggest storylines going into the 2018 NFL season is the league’s new rule that will not allow players to initiate contact with the helmet. Needless to say, players around the NFL have not been shy about voicing their displeasure about it. Among them is Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman. According to Steve Hummer […] The post Falcons RB Devonta Freeman says the NFL’s new helmet rule ‘not my rule’ appeared first on ClutchPoints.

The Falcons are loaded at wide receiver, per PFF and common sense

Wow, who knew? There are many good reasons to be optimistic about the 2018 Falcons, but the sheer number of weapons remains very near the top of the list. When you have Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman at running back and some promising options at tight end, you’re already halfway there. Fortunately for the Falcons, they also have one of the best receiving corps in the NFL. To wit: The #Falcons are the only team with a WR grading over 90 (Julio) and over 80 (Sanu) last season. Oh and they added PFF's #1 ranked WR in the draft. #RiseUp #AerialAttack— PFF ATL Falcons (@PFF_Falcons)...

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman has 10th best odds to win 2018 rushing title

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman has 10th best odds to win 2018 rushing title

Fact: Devonta Freeman never tapes The Bachelorette; he likes to watch it in real time, commercials and all Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman has a lot to play for in 2018. He’s trying to “bounce back” after racking up a paltry 1,200 all-purpose yards and 8 touchdowns in 2017. Because he suffered multiple concussions and an MCL/PCL injury last season, Freeman’s health is a legitimate concern. But that said, the oddsmakers aren’t foolish enough to sleep on Freeman going forward. Oddshark did a piece today about the running backs with the best odds to win the rushing...

Would you bet the over or the under on these Devonta Freeman prop bets?

Would you bet the over or the under on these Devonta Freeman prop bets?

We’d personally hammer on the overs. I’m not a betting man, but I know when a man should take the over, and we should all take the over on these prop bets for Devonta Freeman in 2018. You may recall that we looked at prop bets for Matt Ryan and Julio Jones over the last couple of days, and that a couple of those bets gave us pause. Not so much with Devonta Freeman, who should be healthy and should have a At betonline.ag, Freeman’s over/under for yardage is 960, and his over/under for total touchdowns is 10. He should hit 1,000 rushing yards, given his usage patterns, so long as...
