  • Potpourri: Domenik Hixon, the NFL Draft, and the deep ball
I'm not sure about you, but I'm feeling pretty tired of all the draft talk. Rather than writing about a prospect, who, by this time next week, will likely be on another team, or focusing on a specific draft concern, I felt like exploring something else, or multiple somethings else. So this article is a medley of topics: the recently acquired WR Domenik Hixon, a brief look at the Panthers deep passing attack in 2012, and, not to leave the draftniks unsatisfied, a couple of prospects to whet your whistle. Starting with Hixon (6'2" 197 lbs.), formerly of the NY Giants, the 28 year old ama...
  • 2013 NFL Off-season: Five potential breakout players for the New York Giants
As teams around the NFL prepare for the 2013 season, the New York Giants have a lineup of players that are prepared to prove their worth. Here is a list of players that I think will possibly have breakout seasons in 2013. Rueben Randle Randle stood out in the last few weeks of the 2012 season, but with Domenik Hixon moving onto the Carolina Panthers, Randle's time to really shine will be in 2013. Randle has incredible athleticism and can be a perfect third down receiver with Eli Manning as his quarterback. Hakeem Nicks is returning from an injury-filled season and Victor Cruz is in c...
  • Domenik Hixon agrees to deal with Panthers
The Detroit Lions are now officially not "in play" for wide receiver Domenik Hixon. That's because Hixon has agreed to a deal with the Carolina Panthers, the team that hosted him for a visit earlier this week. It's no surprise that Hixon has signed with a team other than the Lions. He reportedly held an offer from the Lions going back to the start of free agency, but Hixon "tabled" it in order to explore a "better opportunity." For him, that led to visits with the Oakland Raiders and Panthers, and he decided to sign with Carolina. More: Follow all of the Lions' free agency news Lions...

  • 2013 NFL free agency: Carolina Panthers sign WR Domenik Hixon
The Carolina Panthers have improved their wide receiving corps this afternoon, adding Domenik Hixon, formerly of the New York Giants' -- according to Jason LaCanfora. A player from Dave Gettleman's past, Hixon will likely be the Panthers' third receiver behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. There's a good chance Carolina will look for a receiver in the draft later this month, but Hixon as a third is the natual way the depth chart falls right now. Lost in New York's offense, Hixon was never able to get significant snaps behind a talented group of receivers. His best year came in 2008 -...
  • Lions rumors: Detroit not currently 'in play' for Domenik Hixon
On the day NFL free agency began, it was reported that the Detroit Lions made a contract offer to free-agent wide receiver Domenik Hixon. The Lions are in need of a No. 2 type of wide receiver, and they apparently thought of Hixon as an ideal fit. At the time, it was also reported that Hixon decided to table the Lions' offer since he was "looking for a better opportunity." It appears he is still looking for a better opportunity, as Hixon recently visited the Oakland Raiders and is scheduled to visit the Carolina Panthers on Monday. • 2013 NFL free agency: Domenik Hixon to visit Panthers
The Carolina Panthers have a need at their third wide receiver spot, and it looks like help could be on the way. Joe Person reports that free agent Domenik Hixon will the team early week. There was little doubt Dave Gettleman would try and take a few players from his past in New York, and this seems to be the case. After signing linebacker Chase Blackburn last week, now he turns his eye to Hixon who has spent his career as a fringe contributor on a talented team. If signed, Hixon would immediately become the Panthers' third receiver. It's a position that has been under-represented for ...
  • Cabot: Browns Show
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer, the Cleveland Browns have shown a "mild interest" in free agent wide receiver Domenik Hixon. Hixon, who is 28 years old, has spent the past six seasons as a member of the New York Giants. He was originally a fourth-round draft pick in 2006 by the Denver Broncos. If Hixon were to sign with the Browns, he would fulfill the role of a veteran receiver, possibly drawing comparisons to how Joe Jurevicius was used by Rob Chudzinski back in 2007. Hixon has really only had two seasons in which he has received productive playing time, but one of t...

  • Two Super Bowl winning free agents visit Oakland, leave without contracts
The Raiders have confirmed cornerback Tracy Porter and wide receiver Domenik Hixon visited the team recently. Both players have left Oakland without signing a contract. This doesn't mean they won't sign with the team. It simply could mean they are exploring all their options before making a decision. Porter played for the Broncos last season on a 1-year deal. He has been reported as receiving interest from his former team, the Saints for whom he was a Super Bowl hero. The Saints have also showed interest in former Raider, Nnamdi Asomugha. If the Saints were to sign Asomugha, it would s...
  • Raiders hosting WR Domenik Hixon
In a free agency period dominated by defensive players for the Raiders, the team is reportedly hosting their first offensive skill position player today. According to Jason La Canfora, the team is working out former Giants receiver Domenik Hixon who won a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2011. The Raiders have had a spot open at receiver since they cut Darrius Heyward-Bey on the first day of free agency. Heyward-Bey was a starter for the team since he was drafted back in 2009 with the seventh overall pick. However, he never lived up to the number one receiver status bestowed upon him, let...
  • Louis Murphy Signing: New York Giants sign wide receiver
The New York Giants, needing depth at wide receiver with Domenik Hixon and Ramses Barden both unrestricted free agents, today signed Louis Murphy to a one-year deal. Murphy, who will be 26 next season, is a four-year veteran. He spent three seasons with the Oakland Raiders and played last season with the Carolina Panthers. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Murphy was a fourth-round pick by the Raiders in 2009. In four seasons Murphy has 115 career receptions, seven for touchdowns, and has averaged 14.8 yards per reception. He started five games for the Panthers last season, catching 25 passes. H...
  • Lions have offered contract to Domenik Hixon, according to report
The Detroit Lions may have 13 total wide receivers under contract right now (14 if you count exclusive-rights free agent Kris Durham), but they are still on the hunt for more pass catchers. That's clear from the fact that their first three pre-draft visits have involved wide receivers, and it's also clear from this piece of news: Giants WR Domenik Hixon received an offer from the Lions but has tabled it for now. Looking for a better opportunity. — Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) March 12, 2013 Domenik Hixon has been in the NFL since 2006. He spent the first season and some change of ...

  • New York Giants' news, 3/4: Panthers could target Barden, Hixon
Happy Monday, New York Giants' fans! Here are your morning links. GM Dave Gettleman’s work with Carolina Panthers has just begun | CharlotteObserver.comGiven his ties to the organization, expect Gettleman to bring in a couple of former Giants. New York has a pair of free agent wideouts who are 28 or younger – Domenik Hixon and Ramses Barden. Hixon has more experience and has been productive in a part-time role. But the 6-foot-6, 224-pound Barden is the type of big, physical receiver who could thrive in the Panthers’ vertical passing game. The Panthers know Barden well: With Hixon and...
