Chiefs 2017 free agents highlighted by Eric Berry, Dontari Poe

Chiefs 2017 free agents highlighted by Eric Berry, Dontari Poe

The Kansas City Chiefs have a few free agents to think about. The big ones are the ones you already know about: Eric Berry and Dontari Poe. Those are pretty much the only “big” free agents for the Chiefs to worry about this year. But they are indeed big. Let’s look at this year’s crop of free agents (the list comes via Over The Cap): S Eric Berry: It’s not quite Justin Houston’s 22 sacks in a contract year but it’s close. The Chiefs will have to overpay because they can’t let Berry walk. He has them here. NT Dontari Poe: Good player who does a lot but where do the Chiefs...

Chris Jones is already the Chiefs best player in the front seven, PFF says

Chris Jones is already the Chiefs best player in the front seven, PFF says

What if I told you Dontari Poe was the lowest graded player on the Kansas City Chiefs front seven? That’s what Pro Football Focus says in their front seven rankings. They give the top grade to Chris Jones and the lowest to Poe. It’s tough to grade the Chiefs front seven because of all the injuries. They were bad against the run which isn’t a surprise with Justin Houston and Derrick Johnson not playing (surprisingly they even struggled with DJ). The defensive line lost Allen Bailey and Jaye Howard but they “found” Chris Jones and Rakeem Nunez-Roches. You know what’s funny about...

Chiefs’ Chris Jones “watches a ton of tape”, sticks with Dontari Poe

We watch the Kansas City Chiefs on Sundays but we never really know what they’re doing Monday through Saturday. We think they love the Chiefs as much as us and they’re constantly in the building trying to get better, which we know isn’t always true. With Chris Jones, however, it is true. “He’s one of those guys that stays in the building a lot,” Andy Reid said of Jones via quotes from the Chiefs. That surprised me a little bit. I’m not sure why but you see Jones as this goofy dude who seems to just have natural strength. I didn’t equate that to tons of hard work which I...

Dontari Poe says biggest thing Chiefs have going for them is Big Red

Dontari Poe says biggest thing Chiefs have going for them is Big Red

I’m not surprised that Chiefs nose tackle Dontari Poe would say the best thing the Chiefs have going for them is the guy that just gave him a week off. Poe thinks the biggest thing the Chiefs have going for them entering this postseason is “Big Red,” aka Andy Reid.— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) January 3, 2017 Chiefs players love Andy Reid. They loved Herm Edwards and Romeo Crennel but they didn’t win. Andy Reid is the right combination. He has the respect of the players, he respects them back and the Chiefs win. Reid said earlier in the day that the best part of this team is...

The Chiefs front seven has almost completely turned over from training camp

The Chiefs front seven has almost completely turned over from training camp

The Amateur Hour podcast made a really good point about the turnover on the Chiefs defense that I hadn’t realized. In the front seven, the Chiefs have turned over almost every position since the beginning of the season. Let’s go back to training camp. What did the Chiefs front seven look like? Derrick Johnson and Josh Mauga on the inside, Justin Houston (coming back) and Tamba Hali on the outside and Dontari Poe, Allen Bailey and Jaye Howard on the defensive line. What does that front seven look like now? DJ and Mauga are both done for the year. Houston is currently out while Tamba...

Chiefs’ Dontari Poe has now scored against every AFC West team

Chiefs’ Dontari Poe has now scored against every AFC West team

Some genius on the Chiefs reddit page came up with this video which includes a brief history of Dontari Poe scoring touchdowns. Watching this it hit me - Poe has scored against every AFC West team and they all came in blowouts. The first touchdown came against the Chargers in a 33-3 blowout. He ran that one in. The second one came in a 16-point win over Oakland, which he caught (but they called a rush). The final one was against Denver last week. All AFC West teams, all blowouts. Check out the video below:

Dontari Poe’s TD pass has the Kansas City Chiefs feeling good

Dontari Poe’s TD pass has the Kansas City Chiefs feeling good

Not everyone saw the humor in it, the most cynical pundits calling it "classless" to score a meaningless touchdown in such a flippant way. But in truth, there was a certain amount of genius to the call, and a couple underlying benefits that could aid the Chiefs in their Super Bowl pursuit.

Mitch Holthus calls Dontari Poe’s touchdown pass

You knew this was coming: Chiefs announcer Mitch Holthus calls Dontari Poe’s touchdown pass. 10th play of the drive .. 27-10 Kansas City ... this is a shotgun snap to Poe who is going to throw it! Caught! Demetrius Harris! TOUCHDOWN, KANSAS CITY!!! ... The first touchdown in the second half since November 27 is a Dontari Poe touchdown pass. Hungry pig is passing! A jump pass Cam Newton-style and Cam wherever you’re at you have to love that play. A jump pass by Dontari Poe to Demetrius Harris for a Chiefs touchdown.
Chiefs let Dontari Poe pass for a touchdown because it's okay to have fun sometimes

Chiefs let Dontari Poe pass for a touchdown because it's okay to have fun sometimes

People were mad and confused by Andy Reid’s decision, but there’s really no need for either reaction. If there’s been a recurring theme to the 2016 NFL season, it’s been the constant reminder that a lot of people involved with the game, from the league office to the press box, have had just about enough of players having fun. Surprise, a lot of people didn’t like Dontari Poe throwing a touchdown pass when the Chiefs were up 27-10 on the Broncos with two minutes left in the game on Sunday night.
