49ers’ Eric Reid has new role

When he was sidelined for three games with a knee injury, 49ers safety Eric Reid said he expected to reclaim his starting role when he returned. That didn’t happen. On Sunday, a week after Reid was eased back into action at Washington, he played primarily inside linebacker and rotated with Ray-Ray Armstrong. Jaquiski Tartt retained Reid’s role at strong safety, a position where he’s made 59 starts since entering the NFL in 2013. “It’s a little different for me,” Reid said. “I’ve never played the position. But I’m trying to...

49ers’ Eric Reid will kneel, but perhaps not for much longer

49ers’ Eric Reid prepared to stand for national anthem — eventually

Eric Reid will stand when NFL owners step up. On Wednesday, a day after he was part of a meeting that included Jed York and 10 other owners in New York, the 49ers safety said he left the productive session ready to eventually stand during the national anthem. “The NFL has agreed to commit to a long-term plan and use their platform to continue to raise awareness around the issues that affect our country,” Reid said. “And to help us feel like we don’t need to protest. So we feel like we’re (going in) the right direction.” Last year,...

Reuben Foster out again; Eric Reid active for Sunday’s game.

LANDOVER, MD. The heir apparent to NaVorro Bowman, Reuben Foster, is inactive again for Sunday’s game. This will be the fifth game the rookie linebacker has missed. Foster, who suffered a high ankle sprain in Week One, lobbied for playing time last week, imploring, “Give me some candy.” Instead, Ray-Ray Amrstrong is expected to start again in Foster’s place. Brock Coyle is expected to start in place of Bowman, who was released on Friday. Safety Eric Reid, who was injured in Week Two in Seattle but has been an engaged spokesman for...

Eric Reid: 49ers won't force players to stand for anthem

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers won't be forcing their players to stand during the national anthem, safety Eric Reid said Wednesday. Reid, the first player to join Colin Kaepernick in protest last season, said he had a conversation recently with 49ers CEO Jed York, who indicated he will continue to support his players if they decide to kneel during the national anthem to protest social injustice.

Reid: 49ers have York’s support to protest during anthem

In contrast to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who has said he will bench those who don’t stand during the national anthem, 49ers CEO Jed York has given his players his support. That’s according to 49ers safety Eric Reid, who recently had a one-on-one conversation with York. “I’ve talked to Jed,” Reid said. “And he’s expressed very clearly that he wants to support us. That he’s not going to force us to do anything. Speaking for our team, that’s what he’s told me explicitly.” In the latest twist involving the NFL and players...

49ers @ Colts live blog

This is the live blog of the 49ers’ Week 5 road game against the Colts. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from my living room. 9:46 Here are the 49ers inactives: SS Eric Reid LB Reuben Foster FS Adrian Colbert LB DeKoda Watson OL Erik Magnuson WR Kendrick Bourne LB Mark Nzeocha

Rookie draft picks will make NFL debuts for 49ers

INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of rookie draft picks, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and linebacker Pita Taumoepenu, will make their NFL debuts today for the 49ers against the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Witherspoon, a third-round pick, and Taumoepenu, a sixth-round pick, are active because defensive back Adrian Colbert (hamstring) and linebacker Dekoda Watson (groin) are sidelined. Linebacker Reuben Foster (ankle) and safety Eric Reid (knee) are also out. The 49ers’ other inactives are center/guard Erik Magnuson, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne and linebacker Mark...

49ers’ Foster, Reid could return next week

Help is on the way; just not this week. On Friday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said two defensive starters, safety Eric Reid (knee) and inside linebacker Reuben Foster (ankle) could return when the 49ers visit Washington on Oct. 15. Both Reid and Foster have been ruled out of Sunday’s meeting at Indianapolis. “They were definitely more ready to practice this week,” Shanahan said. “We anticipate they’ll be ready to go on Wednesday. And it will be a day-to-day thing to see if they have a chance in the game.” ...

49ers statement following pre-game Anthem demonstration: Football is a unifier of people

49ers statement following pre-game Anthem demonstration: Football is a unifier of people

The 49ers have their first game after the biggest demonstration in the NFL It’s interesting that the San Francisco 49ers, who were the catalyst for the National Anthem protests with former quarterback Colin Kaepernick, finally have their first game since the biggest demonstration in the NFL was held. Eric Reid has continued to be a spokesperson in Kaepernick’s absence and several players including Dontae Johnson and Marquise Goodwin have publicly offered their support.. The team had half their players taking a knee during the Anthem, and the other half putting a hand on the shoulders...

49ers-Cardinals inactives, Week 4: Carlos Hyde is good to go

49ers-Cardinals inactives, Week 4: Carlos Hyde is good to go

Here are the full inactive lists for the 49ers and Cardinals The San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals released their inactives for Week 4, and Carlos Hyde is active. The 49ers listed Hyde as questionable with a hip injury, but after a pre-game workout, they decided he is good to go. I still think Matt Breida gets more touches this week than to date, but Hyde will be the starter. As expected, Eric Reid and Reuben Foster are inactive. Foster could be back as soon as this coming week, while Reid is likely at least a game or two away. Other than that, the 49ers are mostly healthy this...

49ers depth chart 2017: Who will be inactive vs. Cardinals in Week 4?

49ers depth chart 2017: Who will be inactive vs. Cardinals in Week 4?

The 49ers’ inactives list should look largely the same in Week 4. The San Francisco 49ers will take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, and we’re back to take a look at the prospective inactives in advance of the game. Against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2, the 49ers declared S Eric Reid, LB Reuben Foster, DT Xavier Cooper, LB Pita Taumoepenu, CB Ahkello Witherspoon, OL Erik Magnuson and WR Kendrick Bourne inactive. Obviously, with Reid ruled out with a PCL injury and Foster still nursing a high ankle sprain, both of them will be inactive for Sunday’s game. Then we can go to...
