Who will be starting at left guard Week 1?

The San Francisco 49ers have some questions at left guard and swing tackle. Recent moves might help explain some possibilities. The San Francisco 49ers signed offensive lineman Erik Pears recently, inking the former Buffalo Bills guard and tackle to a 2-year deal. Pears spent last season at guard, but previously had spent most of his time as a tackle. He got the guard work in part because injuries created some shuffling. In light of Jonathan Martin's departure from the 49ers, I wanted to try and figure out a couple things. The first is who will be the new swing tackle, and the second is who...

49ers 2015 roster vs. training camp 2014

Here is a look at the 49ers current roster versus the roster they had heading into training camp a season ago. The San Francisco 49ers roster took a hit on Monday when linebacker Chris Borland announced his retirement. That leaves the 49ers with 73 players on the roster. This includes guys like Reggie Bush, Erik Pears, Shareece Wright and Chris Cook, all of whom signed over the last few days. As A Manimal suggested, there is some value in presenting a look at the 49ers current roster and comparing it to the team's roster at the start of training camp last year. I have placed them all in a...

Erik Pears contract details reveal nice little pay day for new 49ers lineman

We take a look at Erik Pears's contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He is taking a pay cut from his last deal with the Buffalo Bills, but still making a nice chunk of change. The San Francisco 49ers agreed to terms with offensive lineman Erik Pears this weekend, and details have trickled out. The 49ers have not announced the move, as the contract is still being process by the league. In the meantime, Aaron Wilson has some numbers on the deal. Pears signed a two year deal, and according to Wilson, it is worth $4.7 million. He got a $500,000 signing bonus, and will earn base salaries of...

49ers roster: 90-man roster following first week of NFL free agency

The San Francisco 49ers are a week into free agency, and now have 74 players on the roster. We take a look at the full list as the team continues filling out the roster. The San Francisco 49ers got busy in free agency over the weekend, signing three outside free agents, and re-signing one of their own free agents. The 49ers announced the signing of cornerback Shareece Wright, and the re-signing of cornerback Chris Cook. The team is also reported to have signed running back Reggie Bush and offensive lineman Erik Pears. The 49ers will announce those two moves once the paperwork has been...

49ers 2015 salary cap space prior to Saturday's additions

The NFLPA provides an updated look at each team's salary cap space. Here is where the 49ers stand, minus a few additions. The San Francisco 49ers had a busy Saturday, as the team signed cornerback Shareece Wright and re-signed cornerback Chris Cook. The team is also reported to have signed offensive lineman Erik Pears and Reggie Bush confirmed he was joining the team. I word the latter two in that manner because the team did not officially announce the moves. The NFLPA has begun updating their public salary cap report, which provides the current cap space for each team. It reflects moves...

Golden Nuggets: 49ers shuffle cornerbacks, sign Reggie Bush and more

Sunday, March 15, 2015 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet. Well, that certainly was an eventful day in free agency, wasn't it? It's weird being able to say that while still thinking that the moves made don't actually affect the San Francisco 49ers all that much. The 49ers didn't want Perrish Cox back, Chris Culliver got overpaid, Erik Pears shouldn't see the field and both Shareece Wright and Chris Cook are just in the mix and not particularly exciting. The biggest deal was the one signed by running back Reggie Bush. I...

NFL free agency 2015: 49ers rumors Saturday open thread

We've got an open thread for free agency rumors. Hopefully the 49ers won't implode again while Fooch and James are out for a few hours/the evening. It's been a fairly productive day for the San Francisco 49ers. Obviously, this team hasn't typically been a big spender in free agency, and moves like we saw today -- the signing of veteran offensive lineman Erik Pears, change-of-pace running back Reggie Bush and cornerback Shareece Wright -- are about as big as it gets. That's why I'm still pretty happy with the signing of wide receiver Torrey Smith -- I think he can do great things if Colin...

Source: 49ers agree to terms with versatile OL Pears on 2-year deal

The 49ers have agreed to terms with former Bills offensive lineman Erik Pears, 32, on a two-year deal, a league source said. The Niners are likely attracted by Pears’ versatility. He started 16 games at right guard la...

49ers sign OL Erik Pears, according to report

The San Francisco 49ers added some offensive line depth, and boosted their beard game on Saturday with reports the team has signed Erik Pears. The San Francisco 49ers have added some reserve depth to the offensive line, signing former Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Erik Pears to a 2-year contract, according to Mike Jurecki. The move comes a couple days after left guard Mike Iupati signed with the Arizona Cardinals. The move should probably not to be viewed as a guy who will take over at left guard. He might get a chance to compete for a starting position, but based on what I've read, if...

49ers to host free agent offensive lineman Erik Pears

The 49ers are looking for some interior line help. They will welcome the Bills right guard to town on Thursday. The San Francisco 49ers hosted Reggie Bush on Wednesday afternoon, and they will next host free agent offensive lineman Erik Pears on Thursday. Pears spent the last five seasons as with the Buffalo Bills. He played right guard in 2014, and right tackle 2011 through 2013. I did not get a chance to watch much of Pears, so I am waiting for some thoughts from Buffalo Rumblings. In the meantime, Pro Football Focus graded him out positive for three games against Kansas City, Cleveland...
