10 things we learned in the Broncos painful 21-26 loss to the Steelers

10 things we learned in the Broncos painful 21-26 loss to the Steelers

Courtland Sutton started despite being hurt. He didn’t last the whole game. | Photo by Joe Sargent/ Injury on top of 0-2. Injury on top of 0-2 is the story of the Broncos game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. As expected, the Steelers pass rush proved a huge issue for Garett Bolles and Elijah Wilkinson. You won’t find me gnashing my teeth over the pass protection too much below because like everyone else I knew that’d be an issue. This is what we learned. Drew Lock got hurt The first two drives of the game were nightmarish for Lock. He went 1-5 with his only completion the...

Holding up(?) the league: Why Week 1 saw the fewest holding penalties ever called

Holding up(?) the league: Why Week 1 saw the fewest holding penalties ever called

Photo by Joe Amon/MediaNews Group/The Denver Post via Only 15 offensive holding penalties were called in Week 1, which is less than one-quarter of the holding penalties called in Week 1 of 2019. I don’t need to write that 2020 has not been normal, but I will anyway. Following in this theme of not normal, there were only 15 offensive holding penalties called in Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season. For comparison, there were 64 called in Week 1 of the 2019 season and 74 called in Week 2 of the 2019 season. Last year it felt like half of those 74 were called against Garett Bolles. ...

Jadeveon Clowney and the Titans’ pass rush could be a huge issue for the Broncos

Jadeveon Clowney and the Titans’ pass rush could be a huge issue for the Broncos

Clowney had a career year under his new Head Coach. | Photo by Tim Warner/ Drew Lock’s in for an early test. The Tennessee Titans will be bringing the heat in Week 1. Even the most optimistic Bronco backers will tell you there is some concern over the state of the tackles this season. Elway made it clear how he views Garett Bolles when he did not pick up the 2017 first round pick’s fifth year option. Elijah Wilkinson’s only starting because JaWuan James opted out. I spent a few weeks studying both of the Broncos’ starting tackles this past off-season and came away...
