James Jones' departure creates opportunity for young Packers receivers

James Jones signed with the Oakland Raiders this off-season, creating an opportunity for young Packers receivers to step up.

With Jones gone, McCarthy expects Boykin to step up

With the departure of James Jones in unrestricted free agency to the Oakland Raiders, the Green Bay Packers find themselves a little thin at wide receiver.

Raiders liked James Jones for more than just his receiving ability

Orlando - The Packers are pretty confident they can replace the production WR James Jones gave them on the field, but a bigger question might be whether they can replace the leadership he provided in practice and the locker room.

Allen: Jones brings more than just veteran presence to Raiders

Photo/Oakland Raiders James Jones three-year deal was not very expensive, but it could give the Raiders just what they need at receiver. ORLANDO, Fla. – While Dennis Allen is excited about what wide receiver James Jones’ veteran leadership will do for team dynamics, the Oakland Raiders head coach wanted to make something very clear Sunday afternoon in the lobby of The Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes resort:The Raiders didn’t sign the former Green Bay Packers wide receiver – or outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley or defensive end Justin Tuck for that matter – to simply deliver...

Cheese Curds: Green Bay Packers News and Links for March 21, 2014

Poor James Jones is a frequent mention in today's curds. Happy Friday, Packers fans. This weekend surely will not have the kind of free agency excitement that last week did (what with the team signing Julius Peppers), so we can probably go back to our normal business. One person who is going back to business in a new place is wide receiver James Jones, who is now an Oakland Raider. Jones is mentioned in several of today's links, primarily in the context of being compared to other players. We also have an article that talks a little bit about the income tax that players are assessed when...

Notebook: Nelson, Cobb likely factors in Jones' departure

With two of their other receivers in line for contract extensions this year, the Green Bay Packers were unwilling to pay receiver James Jones a contract similar to or slightly better than the one he just finished with them.

Introducing new Raiders WR James Jones

There are few athletes I respect more than James Jones, and it is easy to see why. Living homeless didn't break him, not having Aaron Rodgers throwing to him wont either.James Jones is one hell of a person. Notice the chosen word of "person" instead of athlete, it is intentional. James is a man of true strength and decency that just so happens to be really good at football, and anybody who has come across him can attest to those words. Jones is coming to the Oakland Raiders, and he is bringing with him an impressive skill set as a receiver and a gluttony of intangibles. There are few...

James Jones considered the Steelers before signing with the Raiders

The Steelers apparently are into the wide receiver market a bit deeper than initial reports have indicated. James Jones considered #Steelers, #Browns, #Panthers, #Seahawks. In the end, source said, "He grew up wanting to play for the #Raiders" — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 18, 2014 An interesting ripple in the water. If the Steelers really were in talks with wide receiver James Jones - who has since signed with the Oakland Raiders, the Steelers have to have a specific plan in place for more cap room. Or, it could simply be Jones throwing some team names out in response to tire...

Oakland Raiders Sign James Jones: Former Packer Gets Three-Year Contract

After spending his entire career in Green Bay with the Packers, James Jones is finally getting his chance at an increased role with a new team: the Oakland Raiders. It took a bit longer than most expected (including himself), but James Jones finally has a new contract. After a disappointing wait on the free agent receiver market, Jones has agreed to a three-year, $11.3 million dollar deal with the Oakland Raiders, according to a report from Adam Schefter. With receivers such as Emmanuel Sanders and Brandon LaFell signing over the weekend, an even stronger emphasis was put on the question,...

James Jones Instantly No. 1 WR With Raiders?

Former Green Bay Packers receiver James Jones has signed a three-year contract with the Oakland Raiders.Fantasy Spin:Jones led the NFL with 14 touchdown grabs in 2012 but dropped to three in 2013. He finished with a career-high 817 yards on 59 receptions in 14 games. He'll go from having one of the top QBs in the NFL to a team that currently has no starting quarterback, but he also will have far less competition for targets on the Raiders.
