Raiders WR Jordy Nelson not sweating quiet start

Being Derek Carr’s primary receiving target has resulted in a gaudy stat line in each of the Raiders’ first two games. Tight end Jared Cook had nine catches for 180 yards in Week 1. Last weekend in Denver, receiver Amari Cooper had 10 catches on 10 targets for 116 yards. “So maybe I’m in the rotation this week,” receiver Jordy Nelson said, grinning. “We’ll see.” Nelson, the Raiders’ biggest free-agent acquisition this spring, is off to a quiet start with five catches for 53 yards in two games. He was targeted four times at Denver and did not have a catch in the second half....

Silver Mining 9/19: Clinton McDonald glad he ended up with Raiders, Division rivals looking tough

Raiders news Jared Cook’s rare size-speed combination unleashed in Raiders scheme Jared Cook has emerged as Derek Carr’s safety blanket in Jon Gruden’s offense as he is used to terrorize opposing defenses by exploiting matchups with his rare combination of size and speed. DT Clinton McDonald glad he ended up with Raiders Despite only being picked up off the street after Justin Ellis and PJ Hall’s injuries, the former Bronco played 52 of 64 defensive snaps scoring four tackles in the Raiders loss. Mcdonald demonstrated versatility by moving across the line, mostly rushing from the...

Raiders vs. Broncos second half open thread

Raiders vs. Broncos second half open thread

Just like last week, the Raiders hold the lead at halftime, and are leading the Broncos 12-0. The Raiders allowed only two Broncos’ first downs, neither of which came in the first quarter. Although Oakland hasn’t scored in bunches, this game has been abject domination by the Raiders thus far. Derek Carr has shown none of the jitters that paralyzed him against the Rams, and has stood in the pocket and delivered confident passes. The short passing game has been working with WR screens and Jared Cook over the middle. Carr has passed for 158 yards on 18-19 passing, which is positively...

Tale of the Tape: Strategy for slowing down Jared Cook

Tale of the Tape: Strategy for slowing down Jared Cook

Denver will have its hands full against the Raiders’ athletic tight end. The Broncos will have their hands full today as they try to slow down the Raiders biggest offensive weapon, who also happens to play a position Denver has historically struggled to stop - tight end Jared Cook. Cook started off the year with a bang as he racked up nine catches on 12 targets for 180 yards in the Raiders’ loss to the Rams (As it turns out, Wade Phillips’ defenses haven’t gotten any better at stopping tight ends). “We can’t walk in here on Monday and say we didn’t contain him. If we don’t...

Raiders vs Broncos fantasy football advice: Expect Oakland’s (Derek) Carr to stall again

Raiders vs Broncos fantasy football advice: Expect Oakland’s (Derek) Carr to stall again

After an impressive first half against the Los Angeles Rams, it looked like many of the Oakland Raiders players were a smart fantasy play. Hell, maybe Oakland could have limited Todd Gurley and Jared Goff. However, that was not the case and, like I predicted, Goff and Gurley put up monster fantasy days. On the Raiders side, Amari Cooper was shockingly non-existent and Carr was poor putting up great first-half numbers but an abysmal second half. I had one major omission in Jared Cook who had a jaw-dropping Week 1 with 180 yards receiving. In this week’s fantasy football edition, Cook...

Tell The Truth: Yippee Raiders season opener

Tell The Truth: Yippee Raiders season opener

The Oakland Raiders lost their season opener to the Rams 33-13. What’s important to note is head coach Jon Gruden suggesting the score was not indicative of the game played. He may be right as this was a game the Raiders had every opportunity to win, so it’s time to tell the truth. The Good Half The Raiders started out fast in front of an impassioned Coliseum crowd. The pads were cracking as the hits were coming hard and heavy. Jared Cook would produce a career night and a record breaking performance for all Raiders tight ends with 9 receptions for 180 yards. Derek Carr was granted...

HT: Stopping Jared Cook and Marshawn Lynch begins with decent tackling

Otherwise it could be a really long day for the Broncos’ defense. Good morning, Broncos Country! In the midst of the Raiders’ 33-13 meltdown against the L.A. Rams last week, one player remained unfazed and just charged through the mighty Rams’ defense without abandon - tight end Jared Cook. The 10-year veteran torched the Wade Phillips-led Rams defense with 180 yards on nine catches - which, for the math majors, is a 20-yard average on each catch. That would seem like an amazing day for the tight end and an embarrassing one for the Rams’ defense...until you read the Broncos’ stat...

Raiders week 1 Busters

Raiders week 1 Busters

Laying out the Busters for the Raiders 2018 season opening loss to the Rams. Busters Derek Carr What we keep hearing is the Raiders made a game of this and looked competitive through three quarters. I don’t see it that way. I think the game went south well before that. On the first play of the second quarter, Carr found Jared Cook for a 28-yard reception. That put Carr at 9 of 10 passing for 117 yards and the Raiders were in first and goal at the 10. That looks great. But it’s what happened after that which does not look great. That drive stalled with a 3-yard toss on third and goal at...

Jared Cook big game sets Raiders TE receiving record

Jared Cook big game sets Raiders TE receiving record

Cook was a bright spot in an otherwise bleak performance from the Silver & Black. With the entire country watching, the Oakland Raiders took the field Monday night under a roaring crowd anxious to see the return of Jon Gruden. Just a couple hours later, that same team would leave the field to boos following an embarrassing 33-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. In an otherwise bleak performance, veteran tight end Jared Cook was a bright spot delivering an historic performance for the Silver & Black. Cook set a new franchise record for most receiving yards in a game by a Raiders tight end...

Watch: Big Cook catch sets up Beast Mode who carries entire Rams D into endzone

As far as starts go, this was a good one. The Gruden era in Oakland, the one on the field in a regular season game, began with the Raiders on offense. And that Raiders offense went right down the field and scored. After picking up a first down, Derek Carr threw for Jared Cook on a slant over the middle and Cook does the rest, going 45 yards to put the Raiders in scoring position.
