Mel Kiper’s updated mock draft has Chiefs going WR with Patrick Mahomes still on the board

Mel Kiper’s updated mock draft has Chiefs going WR with Patrick Mahomes still on the board

ESPN’s Mel Kiper has his third updated 2017 NFL mock draft for review and the Kansas City Chiefs pick is East Carolina WR Zay Jones. I’m not in love with this pick because I’m not sure where receiver stands on the Chiefs list of priorities. And even if it were higher, a receiver out of East Carolina would have a higher jump to make than someone from, say, the SEC. I say this without knowing much about Jones ... you could guess I didn’t watch much East Carolina football last year. Here’s what Kiper said about the pick: Jeremy Maclin had a down season in 2016, and the Chiefs' top...

Looks like Chiefs WRs Jeremy Maclin and Chris Conley are working out together again

Looks like Chiefs WRs Jeremy Maclin and Chris Conley are working out together again

Last year, Albert Wilson had stayed in Kansas City last summer to work out with Chiefs veteran WR Jeremy Maclin. A story came out later that Maclin then called Chris Conley, who was in Georgia, and told him he had a flight for him to come back to Kansas City and work out with them. It appears some form of that is happening again this year as evidenced by this tweet from Maclin. Started the week off right with a good lower body workout with my guy @_flight17_— Jeremy Maclin (@jmac___19) March 20, 2017 BJ Kissel of Chiefs.com wrote the piece last year with this quote from Maclin...

How much might the Eagles have to pay Jordan Matthews next year?

How much might the Eagles have to pay Jordan Matthews next year?

And will he be worth the dollar, dollar bills? For three seasons, Jordan Matthews has donned a number of hats for the Eagles. In his rookie season, he played the role of surprisingly great second-round rookie, sliding in behind Jeremy Maclin and learning from one of the hardest workers in the NFL. His second year, Matthews found himself thrust into the forefront of the Eagles’ wideout corps, peerless in a sea of otherwise average players, and caught nearly 1,000 yards while dropping just a few too many passes. Matthews also became one of the team’s most vocal players in the locker...

Andy Reid isn’t worried about Jeremy Maclin

Andy Reid isn’t worried about Jeremy Maclin

It’s the time of year when fans value cap space more than they do actual good players and so I wasn’t surprised to see some fans asking this offseason how much cap space the Chiefs would save by cutting Jeremy Maclin. It doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen the way Andy Reid talked about him at his Combine press conference. Maclin’s 536 yards receiving was the worst of his career (besides the season he missed with his ACL tear). Reid, however, is not worried. “I think that was kind of a freak thing,” Reid said. “I’m not worried about Jeremy. Jeremy works hard and no...

Five Chiefs stories to know: Christian McCaffrey, free agents and of course Tony Romo

Five Chiefs stories to know: Christian McCaffrey, free agents and of course Tony Romo

Five Chiefs stories from the past week we should Seth Keysor (MNchiefsfan) wrote Saturday that the Chiefs would be insane to cut Jeremy Maclin. While I agree with Seth here, it is worth noting the contract situation for Maclin. According to Spotrac, Maclin is going to take a $12.4 million hit on the Chiefs cap (including a $2.4 million signing bonus) in 2017. $7.2 million of that would be dead cap for the Chiefs if they released Maclin. That number would be $2.4 million after June 1. Seth hit all the right notes with Maclin’s performance analysis, or lack thereof, in 2017. Spotrac’s...
