Fantasy Update

With Jimmy Clausen (concussion) sidelined, Jay Cutler will be back under center for the Bears in Week 17.
Dec 17, 2014
Big news out of the Windy City earlier this afternoon: The Chicago Bears have benched their $126.7 million quarterback, Jay Cutler, for Sunday's game versus the Lions. Jimmy Clausen will get the start instead. Clausen, a 2010 second-round pick of the Panthers', hasn't started a game since his rookie year and has a 3:9 touchdown-to-interception ratio. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Clausen hasn't proven himself to be any good, but I'm sure this move will make some disgruntled Bears fans very happy. They came to that game on Monday night to boo. They came to boo Cutler. They came to boo that defense. They...

Jimmy Clausen to start NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Cutler has been benched for Jimmy Clausen, according to two sources informed of the situation. The move to Clausen calls into question whether Cutler will be the team's starting quarterback next season. (NFL.com) FF Today's Take: Chicago's offense carries a lot of risk for fantasy owners as the fantasy season winds down. Jimmy Clausen has only attempted nine passes this year and hasn't started since 2010 making Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett far from a sure thing for owners in the playoffs. Nonetheless,...

Bears QB Jimmy Clausen out for Week 17

Clausen has been diagnosed with a concussion and will sit out the Bears final game of the 2014 regular season. After being drilled by the Lions' DE Ziggy Ansah in the fourth quarter, Clausen was examined by Chicago's medical staff and showed no signs of a concussion. However, later in the evening the back-up quarterback contacted the team's athletic trainers and reported "delayed symptoms." Jay Cutler will return under center for the Bears in Week 17. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Clausen was able to execute Marc Trestman's offense much more effectively than the strong-armed and strong-willed Cutler....

Bears shuffle the deck at QB again Bears will start Jay Cutler at QB in season finale Sunday at Vikings. (Brad Biggs on Twitter) FF Today's Take: Jimmy Clausen suffered a concussion in Week 16 and won't be available so the Bears will turn back to Cutler in the final game of the season. Bears notes: Clausen impressive, but supporting cast drops ball

CHICAGO – If Jimmy Clausen was going to provide the spark Bears coach Marc Trestman envisioned when he benched Jay Cutler on a short week against the NFL’s No. 1 scoring defense, the rest of the offense had to comply.

Bears' Jay Cutler 'great' at preparing Jimmy Clausen for start

CHICAGO -- The body-language police likely focused a critical eye on Jay Cutler during Chicago’s 20-14 loss Sunday to the Detroit Lions, but behind the scenes, the benched quarterback spent extra time at Halas Hall preparing Jimmy Clausen for his first start since his rookie season with the Carolina Panthers in 2010. “He was involved during the week in the meetings, actively and vocally involved,” Bears coach Marc Trestman said of Cutler.

Jimmy Clausen deserves another start

CHICAGO -- No brilliant aerial display or 100-plus passer rating for Jimmy Clausen. Not even a victory for that matter. Yet when Chicago walked off the field 20-14 losers to the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Soldier Field, the feeling permeating the locker room and postgame press conference room wasn’t one of despair with Clausen falling short in his first start since 2010 because the quarterback kept the Bears in it until the end. “What do I think I did for myself?

Lions Rally for 20-14 Late Win Over Bears

Matthew Stafford outplayed new Bears starter Jimmy Clausen, but just barely, as the Lions survived a tough win in Chicago, topping the Bears 20-14. He completed 22 of 39 passes for 243 yards and hit the 4,000-yard mark for the fourth straight year, but it was hardly an easy afternoon for him. Ndamukong Suh had […]

Bears vs Lions Final Score: Clausen Starts, but Bears Still Lose, 20-14

The Bears reached double-digit losses as they fell on Sunday to the playoff-bound Lions. Jimmy Clausen's first NFL start in three years was an interesting one. Getting the start in place of a benched Jay Cutler, Clausen played pretty well, though plagued by seven drops (that's the FOX count) and aided on a penalty in the second quarter as well as three takeaways by the Bears' defense. It wasn't enough as Clausen's final throw was picked off by Glover Quin, and the Lions took the game, 20-14. The Lions started with a long touchdown drive, and you thought maybe it was going to be another one...

Bears scaling back game plan for Jimmy Clausen

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Jimmy Clausen spent extra time after Friday’s practice working through plays with the receiving corps and running back Matt Forte in preparation for Sunday’s matchup against the Detroit Lions, but coach Marc Trestman said the new starter at quarterback will enter the contest with a scaled-back game plan. While Clausen and rookie David Fales took in the extra work at Halas Hall, recently benched quarterback Jay Cutler was conspicuously absent despite saying Thursday he planned to help the new starter as much as possible.
