Bengals offensive line ranked surprisingly high in pass-blocking efficiency in 2017

Bengals offensive line ranked surprisingly high in pass-blocking efficiency in 2017

Pro Football Focus thinks quite a few offensive lines were worse at pass blocking than the Bengals’ in 2017. Bengals fans suffered through watching an offensive line that caused Andy Dalton to be abused and Joe Mixon to be lackluster in 2017. Although I’m sure most would prefer to pretend last season just didn’t happen at all. Pro Football Focus has a scorching take for Bengals’ fans though. They believe the Bengals really weren’t the worst offensive line when it came to pass blocking. PFF actually ranked the Bengals tied for 19th overall in pass-blocking efficiency in the NFL....

7 plays that defined Joe Mixon’s rookie season

7 plays that defined Joe Mixon’s rookie season

There were big expectations for the Bengals’ running back in his rookie year. He may not have lived up to them but the future is bright for Joe Mixon. Investment in NFL running backs has become a hot topic in the last couple of years. The position itself has seen a decline in value on the open market in free agency, yet teams have shown little fear in selecting running backs in the top-10, even top five picks of each of the last four drafts. Is the position better off being handled by a balanced committee of three to four guys, or is a predominantly 1-back system with a complementary...

Joe Mixon’s role “will be expanded”; Bengals want him to be a “complete back”

It looks like we should expect Joe Mixon to be even more involved in the Bengals’ offense during his Sophomore season. Joe Mixon is coming off an interesting rookie campaign. Many expected him to have a huge role in the Bengals offense after being drafted in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. It would also make sense that the team would want to show he was worth drafting that high after the Bengals took quite a PR hit to select him. A year later Mixon has been a model citizen in Cincinnati, but his stats on the field were somewhat lacking. He played in 14 games, rushing for 626 yards...

Joe Mixon’s desire to give back stems from Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch

The second-year tailback is planning on doing a lot more than just running the football in Cincinnati. Still just 21 years of age, and one of the youngest players on the roster, Joe Mixon is building a reputation as a local role model in Cincinnati. This past weekend, A.J. Green held his annual football camp at Sycamore High School just north of Cincinnati, and invited Mixon to lead the camp on its second and final day on Saturday. Youth football camps were a big part of Mixon’s upbringing as a young player and embraced the opportunity to act as a leader of one for the first time in his...

Bengals RB Joe Mixon tabbed a fantasy football breakout candidate

Joe Mixon has the potential to become a fantasy football star in 2018. The Bengals are expecting big things from Joe MIxon in 2018, and so too is the world of fantasy football. Mixon is coming off a promising rookie season in which he played behind arguably the worst offensive line in football. The Bengals also changed offensive coordinators after two games, which really helped keep this unit in shambles for most of the season, finishing 32nd in total offense. Despite those issues, Mixon led the team in rushing yards 626) while also grabbing 30 passes for 287 yards. He came on strong to...

Bengals Bytes (5/30): Preston Brown confused about the NFL’s emphasis with helmet rule

Bengals Bytes (5/30): Preston Brown confused about the NFL’s emphasis with helmet rule

Preston Brown led the league in tackles last season, but this year he will have to deal with the NFL’s new helmet rule. Bengals 53-man roster predictions: Running backsThe Cincinnati Bengals have a solid group of running backs heading into training camp this season. With former running back Jeremy Hill heading to New England in free agency, second-year running back Joe Mixon will take the charge as the lead back. Mixon was limited in snaps last season between Hill and complementary back Giovani Bernard. Running behind an offensive line that struggled for the duration of 2017, Mixon was...

What NFL.com got wrong about the Bengals’ starting lineup

What NFL.com got wrong about the Bengals’ starting lineup

Projecting a starting lineup isn’t easy, but NFL.com was way off about some things. In today’s NFL, so many teams run certain packages or rotate personnel so often that the arbitrary starting 11 on each side of the ball is hard to project. Do you start three corners instead of three linebackers because that is what you spend most of the game in? What do you do with players like Carl Lawson? These are complicated questions that NFL.com tried to answer by projecting their starting lineup for the Bengals. Here is what they landed on: QB: Andy Dalton RB: Joe Mixon WR: A.J. Green WR:...
