The Huddle Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's chance at starting this season will be determined by how quickly he will be able to pick up the offense. If Bell struggles to learn the offense, RB Jonathan Dwyer or RB Isaac Redman could start. Huddle Up: Rookie running backs typically can slide right into starting roles at the next level, provided -- and here's the big if -- they can get a quick handle on the vital skill of pass protection/blitz pickup. That's the challenge here for Bell, the second back selected in the draft.

Behind the Steel Curtain Running the ball may have been easier in 2012 if there weren't so many defenders around the line of scrimmage. It'd be fair for Steelers running backs Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman to say that. According to a Pro Football Focus study, of Redman's 110 carries in 2012, 28 of them came facing eight defenders in the box - that's 25.45 percent, the ninth-highest total in the NFL (of running backs with 100 or more carries). May 2, 2013The Huddle Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman appears to have an edge over RB Jonathan Dwyer for the No. 2 running back job at this point. Huddle Up: Sounds like Redman and Dwyer are battling for Le'Veon Bell's leftovers, with a modicum of fantasy value to the winner.
May 2, 2013The Huddle Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley said the team sees RB Le'Veon Bell as a three-down running back. Haley said Bell was the top running back on the team's draft board. Huddle Up: Bell will have an opportunity to be the Steelers' feature-back role, though he'll have to beat out Isaac Redman and/or Jonathan Dwyer for either the top spot or a lead role in a backfield committee. Obviously, Bell's fantasy value climbs the more he's on the field.

Behind the Steel Curtain The selection of LeVeon Bell in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft likely means the Steelers will look to get lighter at the running back position before this season. Although it's no sure-fire thing, it's the next closest thing to it. The question is which one? Just last week the team was pretty shallow at the position, having let Rashard Mendenhall walk in free agency and cut Chris Rainey, while only having restricted free agent tenders on Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer (the team's leading rushers this past season) to go along with Baron Batch. Now add in Bell and just signed f...
Pittsburgh Steelers April 29, 2013FFChamps.com Pittsburgh's decision to draft Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell has made Jonathan Dwyer expendable. SOURCE: Daniel Jeremiah, NFL NetworkFantasy Spin:The draft is winding to a close, so it looks like Dwyer will stay put for now. Don't be surprised if the Steelers trade him before the season starts though.

Behind the Steel Curtain NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah is reporting the Steelers are trying to trade running back Jonathan Dwyer. I'm told the Steelers are trying to trade one of their RB's...Jonathan Dwyer is the name I've heard. #Steelers — Daniel Jeremiah (@MoveTheSticks) April 27, 2013 The Steelers have an abundance of running backs now, and it's logical that Dwyer could be one of them. Frankly, though, if they're looking to trade one of them, it could be any of them. Dwyer and Isaac Redman are both under one-year contracts in restricted free agency. They just signed LaRod Stephens-Howling as well. They...

April 27, 2013Rotoworld NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah has "heard" the Steelers are trying to trade Jonathan Dwyer.
April 27, 2013FFToolbox.com The Steelers were rumored to be interested in Ahmad Bradshaw, but their interest level probably dropped precipitously following what they did in the second round of Friday's draft. The Steelers selected Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The Steelers were going to take a running back during the first half of this draft, we all knew that. This pick is a rather strange one for me, because when I look at the Steelers' backfield, I see an area that needs an infusion of speed, someone more lively than Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer. Bell is not that type of player. He is a...
April 27, 2013FFToolbox.com Running back is a position on the mind of every Steelers fan this weekend. Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman are just not going to cut it, so the Steelers will be looking to upgrade through the draft. But not only through the draft. According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Steelers are "interested" in signing former Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who just recently received full clearance to participate in offseason workouts. He underwent surgeries on his feet during the offseason. The Steelers also signed a running back on Friday, LaRod Stephens-Howling, to a one-year deal. FANTASY ANALYSIS...

March 12, 2013FFToolbox.com Running back Jonathan Dwyer has committed to play for the Steelers for another season. Two days after the team tendered him at the sixth-round level, Dwyer signed his tender offer on Monday. The one-year deal is worth about $1.3 million. Dwyer gained 623 yards and averaged four yards per carry last season. He provided the highlight of the year for Pittsburgh's fluctuating backfield in 2012 when he rushed for at least 100 yards in consecutive games. He became the first Steelers running back in more than four years to do so. But that short period of success ended quickly as Dwyer struggled in th...
