McCown Update: Better but Likely Not Ready to Return

Tampa Bay quarterback Josh McCown and coach Lovie Smith have been close to the vest when it comes to the status of quarterback Josh McCown. McCown has missed the last three games with a thumb injury but has been throwing all week, his first week practicing with the team. He’s listed as questionable for the game on Sunday. Smith said on Thursday the first question would be if McCown could play if called upon. McCown was vague in answering that… Read More »

Bucs notes: QB dilemma is whether to activate McCown

TAMPA -- The biggest decision Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith has to make regarding QB Josh McCown this week is not whether to start him, but whether to activate him. McCown returned to practice this week for the first time since tearing a ligament in his right throwing thumb in a Sept. 28 loss

No Quarterback Controversy for the Bucs

As quarterback Josh McCown continues to get healthy from a thumb injury, there is coming a time when the Bucs will have to make a decision on who to turn to as the starting quarterback of the team. McCown was brought in specifically by Lovie Smith to guide the team. But the Bucs were 0-3 with McCown. Enter Mike Glennon, who is 1-2 as a starter and the perception is he has looked better than McCown. But the Bucs are… Read More »

Bucs notes: Smith sees no QB controversy

TAMPA - Although he declined to name his starter under center for Sunday's home matchup against the Vikings, Bucs coach Lovie Smith rebuffed any notion of a quarterback controversy. Veteran Josh McCown, who struggled before suffering a right thumb injury at Atlanta Sept. 18, is back on

There's 'not a QB controversy,' as Glennon will start vs. Vikings

Josh McCown is throwing footballs again but Mike Glennon still will continue to be the Bucs starting quarterback against the Vikings Sunday.

Buccaneers coach:

Buccaneers coach: "No quarterback controversy"

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a quarterback controversy, even if their quarterbacks coach doesn't want to acknowledge it. If you ask anyone, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a quarterback controversy: Josh McCown is recovering from a thumb injury, while Mike Glennon has outplayed him. But the team is refusing to commit to Glennon or McCown as a starter. One person disagrees that this is a quarterback controversy: the team's quarterbacks coach and de facto offensive coordinator, Marcus Arroyo. We still don't know who's going to start on Sunday against the Vikings, let alone past this week....

Lovie Smith, Bucs should stick with Glennon

TAMPA -- Let the QB controversy begin! Not.Monday, for the first time since Sept. 18 at the Georgia Dome, Josh McCown (you might remember him) threw the football at Bucs practice. So did Mike Glennon, but a lot of eyes, Bucs coach Lovie Smith's among them, must have trained on McCown.

Smith faces QB decision as McCown returns to Bucs practice

It appears Bucs coach Lovie Smith must make a decision at quarterback with Josh McCown returning to practice, possibly opening the door for him to start over Mike Glennon on Sunday vs. Minnesota.

Josh McCown returns to practice for Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw their original starting quarterback return to the practice field, but does that mean he'll re-gain his starting job? Josh McCown returned to practice for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today, according to Roy Cummings. The quarterback hasn't taken the field since week three of the regular season, when a thumb injury forced him to the sideline. That sprained thumb had kept him sidelined until this week, with Mike Glennon filling in admirably. It's not clear whether McCown's return to the practice field will also mean a return to the starting lineup. Mike Glennon...

Bucs’ McCown Returns to Practice w/Video

The Tampa Bay Bucs have been without quarterback Josh McCown since the Atlanta game because of an injured thumb. On Monday, the team’s first practice since the bye week had McCown throwing. He had missed the previous three games. During the media portion of practice, McCown looked pretty good throwing short to medium passes. Mike Glennon was still taking first-team reps but McCown was alternating with Mike Kafka on second and third team reps. Here’s a quick shot of one… Read More »
