Top 10 Overall Fits for the Patriots

These are the 10 Players Who Fit Best in a Patriots uniform coming out for the 2016 NFL Draft. All of them are likely Day 2 picks with a couple possibly slipping into the 4th round of the draft. The Patriots only have four Day 2 picks, but I'm very confident at least one of them will wind up in New England this weekend. Sterling Shepard, WR, Oklahoma: Shepard is a plug and play starter for the Patriots in the slot and can contribute on punt returns, which would take the pressure off of Julian Edelman to do it. Shepard is more of a Z/Slot type receiver, but can run every route in the book...

Know your Chiefs draft crush: Oklahoma WR Sterling Shepard

The series continues with a guy that most people like in Oklahoma WR Sterling Shepard. But how early would you take him? Every year there's a slot receiver that everyone loves. He runs great routes, can make people miss and is one that EVERY team could use. Last year, it was Tyler Lockett. Certain AP writers still can't speak his name without getting misty eyed. Basically, ever since Wes Welker became the New England version of Wes Welker, everyone has been trying to find the next Wes Welker. Speaking of, I see the Chiefs play the Patriots I wish they had a guy like Julian Edelman who can...

Day 3 QBs Patriots Can Target

Just to remind you, regardless of what just transpired, it was guaranteed Patriots were going to add a QB at some point of this off season. With only two QBs on the roster, the team needed a camp arm so Brady or Jimmy G wouldn't have Dice-K esque dead arms by throwing to tenth string WRs. And now, Julian Edelman is literally our de facto back up QB of the opening day...and that's not ideal. What slightly changed, is that Patriots might need to do better than washed up Ryan Lindley or ('gulp') Tim Tebow for the third string spot. There's still chance the team opt to sign a veteran QB, but we...

2016 NFL Draft Prospect Profile: Does Oklahoma's Sterling Shepard Answer the Patriots Wide Receiver Question?

The New England Patriots have a fair number of questions at wide receiver. How will Julian Edelman recover from his foot injury? Will Chris Hogan and Nate Washington transition well into the Patriots offense? Will Danny Amendola even make the roster with his monster base salary? Is there anyone else? The Patriots relied heavily on players like Keshawn Martin last season, and while Martin was fine, he wasn't a difference maker. The team's only "proven" outside wide receiver is 4th year Aaron Dobson, who hasn't proven much at all. The reality is that Edelman and Hogan are the only two locks...

NFL Draft Rumors: Western Michigan WR Daniel Braverman meeting with Bengals

Daniel Braverman is drawing comparisons to NFL players like Julian Edelman, Wes Welker and Brandon Stokley. The Pro Day circuit has come and gone, which means we'll now see more prospects begin to have private workout and/or meetings with various NFL teams prior to the start of the NFL Draft. The Cincinnati Bengals are continuing to look at many of this year's wide receiver prospects, whether they're first-round or seventh-round prospects. Western Michigan's Daniel Braverman is more likely to end up in the latter, but that doesn't mean he isn't getting significant NFL interest. I'm...

2016 NFL Draft Prospect Profile: Arizona State WR Devin Lucien is a Hidden Stud

How would you feel if the Patriots selected a wide receiver that led all draft prospects in yards per game down the final stretch of the 2015 college season in November and December? This player picked up 659 yards and 6 touchdowns on 35 receptions over five games during that time frame against Power 5 opponents. This player was a first year transfer that couldn't join his new team until the middle of June. He took the first half of the season to adjust (and to overcome a hamstring injury), but then exploded once he was comfortable in the offense. After he collected 118 yards against...

Projecting What Patriots WR Chris Hogan Will Produce to be Considered a Success

There was an extremely interesting debate in the comments section about new Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan that I thought deserved some discussion. The basic question was what does WR Chris Hogan have to produce to be considered a success? Former Patriots wide receiver Brandon LaFell averaged 745 yards in his two seasons with the team, at the low price of $3 million per season. Danny Amendola picked up 648 yards this past season on a contract set at $4.25 million per year, and he's considered to be overpaid. Julian Edelman has averaged 890 yards per scrimmage over the past two seasons...
