Alfonzo Dennard to IR, Josh Boyce to roster for Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Reserve cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, a one-time starter who slid down the depth chart in 2014, was placed on season-ending injured reserve by the New England Patriots on Saturday. Dennard injured his hamstring Friday in practice, according to the team's injury report. With the open roster spot, the Patriots promoted wide receiver Josh Boyce from the practice squad. The promotion of Boyce suggests that the Patriots' top two receivers, Julian Edelman (concussion) and Brandon LaFell (shoulder) might not play much in Sunday's season finale against the Bills, if at all.

Perfect attendance at Patriots practice Wednesday

FOXBORO — For a second straight day, the Patriots had perfect attendance at practice Wednesday. The practice was held in full pads on the game field at Gillette Stadium in preparation for Sunday’s season finale at home against the Bills. It’s worth mentioning, Julian Edelman, LeGarrette Blount, Dan Connolly and Kyle Arrington all practiced, although […]

Charting the Patriots' passing attack: a look at Tom Brady and his receivers

Critics of the New England Patriots' passing game and quarterback Tom Brady frequently suggest that the Patriots deploy a system that favors short passes and easy completions. Is it true? The 2014 New England Patriots have done a fantastic job of creating a passing offense that can attack all areas of the field. They have an excellent underneath slot weapon in Julian Edelman, a monster in Gronk who can attack the seams, and an strong all-around receiver in Brandon LaFell who can threaten outside the numbers. At least, that’s what the eye test would tell you. Taking a quick look at the...

Patriots vs. Jets Snap Counts: Defensive rotation tightens

Three observations on both offense and defense on the Patriots’ snap count totals from their week 16 victory over the Jets. After scanning the Patriots' snap counts from the team's week 16 victory over the New York Jets, here are a few things that stood out on each side of the ball: Offense 1. Heading into the game, we were unsure whether it would be Danny Amendola or Tim Wright receiving the majority of Julian Edelman’s snaps. As expected, both received a jump in playtime, but Amendola’s was more significant. Amendola played 45 of 64 snaps, tied for his highest playtime percentage of...

En Garde! Three Plays the Jets Absolutely Destroyed the Patriots Offensive Guards

Sorry, but I had to do this. We're allowed to laugh because the Patriots won, right? Even though the offense looked shaky and the defense helped Geno Smith look like an NFL quarterback (at times). The Patriots played with Tom Brady's safety blanket on offense, receiver Julian Edelman, and without the captain of the offensive line, Dan Connolly. There were going to be some hiccups, so the fact New England left with a victory, regardless of the current state of the Jets, should be applauded. I decided to go through the game to see how the Patriots turned it around (in the smallest of ways)...

Ups and downs for Patriots

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- At an initial glance, and without the benefit of film review, a look at which New England Patriots were "up" and which were at the opposite end of the spectrum in Sunday's 17-16 win over the New York Jets: Up Danny Amendola -- Receiver saw the most notable increase in playing time in the absence of Julian Edelman (concussion) and provided a spark at times on offense and also in the return game (39-yard return early in the second quarter set up the Patriots' first touchdown drive).

Week 16 Patriots vs Jets: Julian Edelman, Kyle Arrington OUT

The Patriots will be forced to play without their starting slot machines. Per ESPN's Mike Reiss, cornerback Kyle Arrington did not make the trip to New York to face the Jets. The cornerback has been battling a hamstring injury that took him out of last week's game against the Dolphins. It's likely that sophomore cornerback Logan Ryan will step up in Arrington's place to face slot receiver Jeremy Kerley, one of the better slot players in the league. Wide receiver Julian Edelman didn't make the trip either, according to the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe. Edelman suffered a concussion over the...

Report: Patriots WR Julian Edelman will not play Sunday

It's not a very long trip from the New England area to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, but the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe has been told by a couple of sources that Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman didn't make that trip with his teammates on Saturday. Edelman suffered a concussion at some point in the past week, possibly during practice. Although he was still able to practice in limited fashion throughout the week, he didn't complete the league's concussion protocol before the team departed. Edelman will miss his first game since 2012. FANTASY ANALYSIS: We're so used to the Patriots listing...

Reports: Julian Edelman Doesn’t Travel With Pats, Won’t Play Sunday

If the Patriots want to wrap up a first-round bye with a win over the New York Jets on Sunday, they’ll have to do it without their top wide receiver.

Report: Julian Edelman stays at home, won’t play Sunday vs. Jets

FOXBORO — After being limited all week in practice with a concussion, the Patriots have decided to let Julian Edelman stay home and watch the team’s game against the Jets. In a move first reported by Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, the Patriots made the decision to leave for their short trip to New […]

Julian Edelman out with concussion

Didnt make the trip to New York Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman will not play tomorrow against the Jets due to a concussion, according to two sources. (Boston Herald) FF Today's Take: With Edelman out of the lineup it's reasonable to assume Danny Amendola will see more snaps. RB Shane Vereen could also see increased usage in the passing game. Rob Gronkowski and Brandon LaFell get a bump in value.
