49ers sign WR Kassim Osgood, release QB Josh Johnson

49ers sign WR Kassim Osgood, release QB Josh Johnson

The 49ers made a transaction involving two regularly transacted players. This is kind of funny. This is becoming almost comical. The San Francisco 49ers have officially signed wide receiver Kassim Osgood, and in order to make room for him, they released quarterback Josh Johnson. The 49ers released Johnson last month to make room for tight end Asante Cleveland when Vernon Davis and Vance McDonald were both injured. Once the tight ends got healthier, the team signed Johnson back, and released Cleveland. This marks the 5th time in two years Osgood has signed a new contract with the 49ers. The...

Kassim Osgood apparently will be back at some point

The San Francisco 49ers released Kassim Osgood on Wednesday, but now Osgood might be back. This is all a little confusing. Earlier this week, the San Francisco 49ers released wide receiver Kassim Osgood to bring back safety Bubba Ventrone. The move was an odd one since both players appear on the various special teams squads. And now it appears Osgood will be returning to the team at some point. The team has not announced a transaction, but on Thursday, Jim Harbaugh was hopeful Osgood would be returning sooner rather than later. He had this to say on Thursday You had high praise for WR...

49ers sign Bubba Ventrone, release Kassim Osgood

The 49ers announced the signing of Bubba Ventrone and the release of Kassim Osgood. We consider the reasons for such a move. The San Francisco 49ers made a roster move official on Wednesday. They announced the signing of safety Bubba Ventrone, and the release of wide receiver Kassim Osgood. This special teams swap is a curious move considering Osgood's reputation on special teams. On Monday, Jim Harbaugh referred to Osgood as the team's best special teams player. Osgood has handled a lot of gunner work in punt coverage, so one possibility is the team was happy with another option at gunner,...
