Raiders countdown to kickoff: 61 is Rodney Hudson, who wore it best?

We just keep countin’ down to the Raiders season opener. Just 61 days left and with that, we feature the man wearing that number in Silver & Black. C Rodney Hudson The Raiders lured Hudson from their division rival Chiefs by making him the highest paid center in the league. He had a Pro Bowl caliber season in 2015, but it went unrecognized due to team’s overall poor run offense. Last season, with the addition of Kelechi Osemele, the unit was complete and dominated defenses on the ground as well as in pass protection. Hudson’s play was consistent and steady as the league’s top pass...

Raiders guard Gabe Jackson underrated no more

Raiders guard Gabe Jackson underrated no more “He was as good as anyone in the league toward the end of last season,” Tice, Oakland’s offensive line coach, said in a phone conversation Wednesday. While Pro Bowl left guard Kelechi Osemele was going viral last season with online videos of his pancake blocking of opposing defensive players, Jackson was quietly going about his business on the other side of one of the NFL’s best offensive lines. Jackson and Osemele were the only two guards in the league to play 1,000 or more snaps and not allow a sack. The Raiders’ line — literally...

It must be Friday at 5pm because the Raiders are tying up loose ends. This loose end was locking up Gabe Jackson on a 5-year extension. With Jackson heading into the final year of his rookie contract, his extension will keep him with the team through 2022. The deal is for a reported $56 million. The $11.2 million per season average makes him the third highest paid guard in the league behind Browns Kevin Zeitler ($12 million per season) and teammate Kelechi Osemele ($11.7 million). Jackson was the team’s pick at 81 overall in the third round of the 2014 draft out of Mississippi State. The...

Raiders sign guard Jackson to 5-year extension

Fans like to call the Raiders’ offensive linemen “Carr insurance.” Jackson was the third-round pick in the 2014 draft, which turned the franchise around, with general manager Reggie McKenzie taking defensive end Khalil Mack in the first round and Carr in the second. Jackson, 25, started 28 games at left guard his first two seasons before moving to the right side last year after the Raiders signed free agent Kelechi Osemele. The Raiders’ offensive line - which also had Pro Bowlers in center Rodney Hudson and left tackle Donald Penn — allowed a league-low 18 sacks last season.
