Thank You, LaDainian Tomlinson

The San Diego Chargers retired LaDainian Tomlinson's jersey yesterday. Here's a salute to one of the all-time greats. Yesterday was strange. About a month ago I told you that this season can always get worse. Now, at the time I meant that as a pessimistic, visceral reaction to what I was seeing rather than a ulcer -inducing case of precognition. Yesterday was as bad as it gets. I don't care what happens the rest of the season. This was the lowest of the low in lowest of seasons.  Not that that means it's getting better any time soon, either. But it was also as good as it gets. I won't...

Chargers-Chiefs Final Score: San Diego Chargers embarrassed at home by Kansas City Chiefs, 33-3

If there was any doubt that the San Diego Chargers were a bad football team, and that Mike McCoy needs to be fired, it was erased by the performance at Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. This wasn't just the worst loss of the season, or the worst performance of the Mike McCoy era by the San Diego Chargers, but this may be the worst loss in the history of the franchise. You think I'm joking, but I'm not. First of all, when all of the talk should be about the celebration of LaDainian Tomlinson, and the touching speech he gave at halftime while having his number retired...

LaDainian Tomlinson and BFTB

The day before his number gets retired by the San Diego Chargers, we look back at what LaDainian Tomlinson has meant to this blog and community. Writing for, and running, a blog is a funny thing. Especially for me. I didn't start Bolts from the Blue, but I became its captain just a few months after it was started. I was 23 years old, and the extent of my writing "experience" was as a contributor/editor for my community college newspaper. My training was an informal one, trying to learn what I could from the written words Bukowski and Tolstoy and Thompson and Leitch and Magary and Ufford...

Tomlinson defends Bolts rookie Gordon

LaDainian Tomlinson said Melvin Gordon is doing fine and right to be self-critical.

The San Diego Chargers will lose to the Kansas City Chiefs

That's it. that's all. The San Diego Chargers are going to get demolished by the Kansas City Chiefs. Editor's Note: SB Nation's partner FanDuel is running a $1.25M fantasy football league on Sunday. First place wins $100,000. Join now! It's been a while since I've explained why I do this. Why, week in and week out during the NFL season, I posted a "The Chargers Will Lose" article and then, about an hour later, a "The Chargers Will Win" article. Most assume that I do it so that I can always claim that I had the right prediction, but I'm not that dense. That would also mean that I would...

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson wins 15th career FedEx Ground Player of the Week award

By Chris Tomasson ctomasson@pioneerpress.com Vikings running back Adrian Peterson picked up yet another FedEx Ground Player of the Week award. Peterson was honored Thursday for rushing for 203 yards last Sunday at Oakland. Peterson has won the award 15 times, three behind LaDainian Tomlinson for the most in the award's history. Peterson last had won it for a Dec. 1, 2013 showing against Chicago. That was his previous 200-yard game prior to last Sunday. Should the San Diego Chargers tank?

Should the San Diego Chargers fans be rooting for a loss on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs? Does Philip Rivers need to let the team lose so that they can have a better future? I don't want this post to get too long and rambling. I have a history of doing that. I want to stick to my point and try to convince you, the reader, that my heart is in the right place when I root for the 2-7 San Diego Chargers to lose to the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. Here we go, right into the teeth of it... LaDainian Tomlinson This is LT's week, right? His number will be retired by the San Diego...

San Diego Chargers Daily Links: November 18, 2015

Your daily dose of San Diego Chargers news & notes from around the web. Despite uneven play, Melvin Gordon highlights Chargers' 2015 class - Eric WilliamsThis year’s draft class has missed a combined 13 games to injury. The rookie with the most time on the field is Gordon, who has not played up to his potential -- both because of how he has performed and how the Chargers have chosen to use him in the offense. Gordon has five explosive runs of 20 yards or longer, so his playmaking ability is there. However, he is averaging just 3.6 yards a carry. Gordon also fumbled the ball four times...

Chargers vs. Chiefs Sunday Night Game Flexed Out

The Chargers dismal season just got a little more bad as their only Sunday Night appearance just got canceled. So it now seems the National Football League and NBC Sports have pulled the plug on the San Diego Chargers season. Today the league announced that the Nov. 22nd Kansas City Chiefs vs San Diego Chargers Sunday Night matchup has been flexed out of its original time slot and replaced with a game that features the currently undefeated (7-0) Cincinnati Bengals and (5-2) Arizona Cardinals. Not even former Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson could help. The Chargers were set to retire...
