Redskins Defensive Improvements: DeJon Gomes

Hogs Haven — After the 2011 season, DeJon Gomes looked like a draft steal to me. He played in 15 games in 2011, and started 5. He played extremely well during the 2011 season while playing strong and free safety due to the injuries of LaRon Landry and Oshiomogho Atogwe. Gomes was playing extremely well in run support during the 2011 campaign. He was hard hitting and running to ball on every play while tackling anyone he could. I was impressed and I believed we had a starting safety going into the 2012 season. As you can see from his stats from 2012, that plan did not go so well. 2012 Stats Game...

Dawan Landry's Contract Is Reasonable

Gang Green Nation — Yesterday, the New York Jets signed their new starting strong safety in Dawan Landry, LaRon Landry's older brother. Today, the details of the contract have been revealed: Jets S Dawan Landry signed 2-year, $3 million contract, including a $650k signing bonus. #Jets — Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) April 10, 2013 The cap hit for 2013 is only about $1.1 million. That's not half bad for a solid starter, and it avoids the same problem the Jets had this past year with LaRon. If Dawan recovers under Rex Ryan, as he played his best year for him in Baltimore, then the team will still have him f...

Jets replace safety LaRon Landry with brother Dawan

Jets Blog | New York Post — EPADawan Landry with the Ravens in 2011. The Jets replaced Pro Bowl safety LaRon Landry with his older brother today, signing veteran free agent Dawan Landry. Dawan Landry, 30, played under Jets coach Rex Ryan and new defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman while with the Ravens, and had spent the past two seasons with the Jaguars. The Jets have a glaring need at safety after LaRon Landry signed with the Colts in free agency and Eric Smith was released. That left just the unproven Josh Bush and Antonio Allen and veteran castoffs Jaiquawn Jarrett and Bret Lockett until Dawan Landry was adde...

New York Jets Sign Dawan Landry

Gang Green Nation — The New York Jets have signed LaRon Landry's older brother, Dawan Landry. Landry is a strong safety, like his brother. Also like his brother, he is a liability in coverage, so he will be more of an "in-the-box" safety. He is quieter in temperament, but is a solid, reliable tackler who had his best year under Rex Ryan as a member of the Baltimore Ravens. The terms of the contract have not yet been released, although I expect Landry to be relatively cheap. My big bro just sent me a text sayin "Jet life to da next life".. congrats big bro.. — Laron Landry (@MrLandry30) April 9, 2013 I...

Jets sign Dawan Landry

Green Machine | Bergen Record — The Jets have signed free-agent S Dawan Landry, who was released by Jacksonville last month. Landry, 30, is the older brother of LaRon Landry, whom he likely will replace in the Jets’ starting lineup in 2013. LaRon spent one productive season with the Jets and then left for Indianapolis via free agency. Dawan Landry has started 96 of the 98 games he has played in his NFL career. He has 5.5 sacks and 12 interceptions in that span. He spent his first five seasons with Baltimore, the first three of which were with current Jets’ coach Rex Ryan as defensive coordinator, so he is quite familiar with...

  • I'll Feel Better About The 2013 Colts If They Sign OLB Shaun Phillips
Whether you personally agree or disagree with the Colts 2013 offseason strategy of building the team through free agency, the reality is the front office has addressed several key needs with the signing of players like Gosder Cherilus, LaRon Landry, and Ricky Jean-Francois. However, one glaring weakness that still remains is pass rusher, and this is a point that continues to frustrate your faithful and trusty writers and editors here at Stampede Blue. Currently, Robert Mathis is the only reliable pass rusher on the roster. I know that both Ryan Grigson and Chuck Pagano have been quoted...
  • Colts Release S Tom Zbikowski
Yesterday, the Indianapolis Colts signed pro bowl safety LaRon Landry to replace Tom Zbikowski's spot in the starting lineup. Turns out Zbikowski won't have a spot anywhere on the Colts. Today the club announced that they released Zbikowski, who started 11 games for the Colts last year, recording 38 tackles, 1 sack, 5 passes defensed, and 1 interception. Zbikowski has been heavily criticized among fans and media alike for his play last year, which was admittedly very bad. At the same time, however, I am in the minority that thinks his poor play was over exaggerated and that he is ...
  • Lions free agency: LaRon Landry, Dashon Goldson off the market
Before the Detroit Lions signed safety Glover Quin, they were connected to both LaRon Landry and Dashon Goldson. Actually, Landry was scheduled to visit the Lions, and Detroit was reportedly among the favorites to land Goldson. In the end, neither safety ended up signing with the Lions. Landry signed a four-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday night. The Colts were the first and only team Landry visited, so much like last year, he didn't stay unsigned long enough to visit the Lions. Considering he ended up getting a deal worth $6 million per season, he likely wouldn't hav...
  • 2013 NFL Free Agency: 49ers DT Ricky Jean-Francois Visiting the Colts
The Colts and general manager Ryan Grigson continue to spend on under-the-radar players in free agency. Though the biggest "name" player they've inked so far is former Jets safety LaRon Landry, everyone else they've brought in fits the mold of solid, productive players rather than "dream team" stars. A player who fits the "solid-productive" mold is 49ers defensive tackle Ricky Jean-Francois. Prior to Wednesday evening, several sources had Jean-Francois linked to the Colts. He spent part of Wednesday in Philadelphia being courted by Howie Roseman and Chip Kelly. He did not sign there th...
