Report: Mackensie Alexander’s ankle injury not serious

A little bit of good news from yesterday In Saturday afternoon’s 14-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Minnesota Vikings suffered no fewer than half a dozen injuries, at least one of which has already been determined to be pretty significant. In a bit of good news, it appears that one of the injuries is not going to be as bad as it potentially could have been. #Vikings CB Mackensie Alexander had an MRI done on his injured ankle this morning. Told it didn’t show anything seriously bleeped up. So that’s good news. Team may update further on sprain, sprain type tomorrow. Sprains...

Jaguars at Vikings Preseason 2018: Second Half Open Thread

Jaguars at Vikings Preseason 2018: Second Half Open Thread

Ugly, ugly first half for the Vikings If there was one word to describe the first half of action between the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars at U.S. Bank Stadium, that word would be “sloppy.” The half was filled with penalties by both teams and overall bad play Neither team accomplished much on their first drive. The Vikings picked up one first down on a Jacksonville penalty, and the Jaguars went three-and-out on their first possession after both Mackensie Alexander and Anthony Barr had an opportunity to intercept the same Blake Bortles pass. The Vikings’ second drive...

After fighting nickel corner role, Mackensie Alexander ready to excel for Vikings

The Vikings have enough options at the nickel corner spot that they’re not beholden to Mackensie Alexander in his third season. Terence Newman returns at age 40, after playing 55.8 percent of the Vikings’ defensive snaps last year to Alexander’s 32.5. And though the Vikings would likely prefer to bring Mike Hughes along slowly, the first-round pick does give them another option in the slot should they need one. But even though they have a number of ways they could go, the Vikings certainly seem to be proceeding as though the nickel corner job is Alexander’s to lose. He’s been with...

Vikings’ Mackensie Alexander finally embracing nickelback role

Vikings’ Mackensie Alexander finally embracing nickelback role

Last year, the Vikings elected not to re-sign nickelback Captain Munnerlyn. The plan was then to replace him with Mackensie Alexander. There was one problem. Alexander, who had been taken in the second round of the 2016 draft, didn’t want to make the move from outside cornerback. “It was tough because it’s a new position, […]

Mackensie Alexander aiming to be “Top 5” slot cornerback

Mackensie Alexander aiming to be “Top 5” slot cornerback

In his first couple of seasons, he said he didn’t want to do the job When the Minnesota Vikings used a second-round pick on Mackensie Alexander in the 2016 NFL Draft, they did so knowing that they already had two fairly solid cornerbacks on the outside in Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes. With that being the case, many thought that the logical role for Alexander would be as a slot cornerback, dealing with smaller, quicker corners that he couldn’t jam off the line of scrimmage. There was only one issue with that. . .it wasn’t a role that Alexander was particularly happy about...
