Bears hand return duties to Marc Mariani

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Bears head coach Marc Trestman confirmed Friday that recently signed return specialist Marc Mariani will handle return duties this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “He’s worked hard this week and he’ll be returning for us, both punts and kickoffs,” Trestman said. “He’s had a reliable week and picked things up in the return game. I think all of us feel good about that.” The Bears signed Mariani to a two-year contract on Tuesday after Chris Williams suffered a hamstring injury presumably in the 21-13 victory over Minnesota.

Bears add Marc Mariani, waive Ahmad Dixon

The Chicago Bears announced Tuesday they signed receiver/return specialist Marc Mariani to a two-year contract, while waiving safety Ahmad Dixon in a corresponding roster move. Mariani, 27, played in 32 games over four seasons (2010-13) with the Tennessee Titans, returning 73 punts for 819 yards and two touchdowns, and 92 kickoffs for 2,278 yards and a touchdown to go with five catches for 24 yards. Mariani earned Pro Bowl recognition after the 2010 season as a return specialist.
