  • 49ers minicamp: Some injury follow-ups on Darius Fleming and Mario Manningham
Earlier today, I put together a rundown of the injury status of 18 members of the 49ers heading into this week's mandatory minicamp. Coach Harbaugh just wrapped up some time meeting with the media and he had a few comments about some of the injured players. Coach Harbaugh was asked about Mario Manningham, who is still rehabbing his torn knee ligaments. Matt Maiocco specifically asked if Harbaugh expects Manningham to be ready for the regular season. Coach Harbaugh responded with, "At some point." We'll have the transcript later this afternoon for more details, but you can take that how...

  • Mario Manningham injury update: 49ers WR running, cutting
49ers wide receiver Mario Manningham made an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, and while discussing Michael Crabtree's injury, Manningham provided an update on his own recovery. Cam Inman has the details of the interview (I can't find the audio of it), but I wanted to pull out a small portion about Manningham's rehab process: "I have started and running cutting and doing little things," Manningham said. "When you have knee injuries, you can't really take any time off. Every time I think about it, I'm trying to do something with my knee. "I'm not rushing it but I am going hard on my kn...
  • 49ers' Mario Manningham on Michael Crabtree injury: 'Next person has to step up'
San Francisco 49ers receiver Mario Manningham, recovering from knee injury, discusses Michael Crabtree's Achilles tear
  • Mario Manningham hopes to be ready in time for training camp
Mario Manningham made an appearance on Jim Rome's radio show, and he had a chance to discuss a variety of topics. The most pertinent was related to his knee injury. His comeback is now 17 weeks old, and the rehab process continues on. As would be expected, Manningham said things are going well with it. Rome asked him if he planned on being back in time for training camp and Manningham said he would, "around that time". He emphasized that he wanted to be back at 100% and didn't want to rush anything. He also had a chance to discuss the hard parts of rehab, and he pointed to the mental s...
  • Golden Nuggets: Heavy Competition at Wide Receiver
Now that we have a good idea who we will have on the roster going into training camp, questions about the depth chart are starting to arise. One of the biggest questions is in regards to the wide receiver position. It's pretty safe to assume that Michael Crabtree is the No. 1 option with Anquan Boldin lining up across the field. Where the rest slot in is a big fat mystery. Mario Manningham would be presumed to be the No. 3, based on his body of work. He was injured late in the year and his rehab is reportedly coming along slowly. Kyle Williams is also recovering from a season-ending in...
  • Mario Manningham injury: Truly assessing the recovery
Fooch's Note: We've got a new writer! socalisteph is a big Bay Area sports fan and will be providing a fairly broad mix of analysis for us. The first part of this article is her introduction, and the second part is her Manningham article. You can follow her on Twitter @socalisteph. The 49ers were the first professional-sports franchise based in San Francisco. My parents, Bay Area Natives, were among the first fans when the team started up. In my family, sports fandom was part of our daily life. We didn't watch regular television shows or series like other families. We watched sports. W...
  • 49ers injury updates: Circling back on Kendall Hunter, Mario Manningham, Kyle Williams and more
In recent weeks, I've been hit up on Twitter numerous times for updates on various 49ers injuries. We've provided updates as news developed, but I figured now was a good time to put together a comprehensive update on where we stand. There was some new information on Kendall Hunter this weekend, but otherwise this is just a compilation so everybody is on the same page. Well, everybody that reads this at least. Kendall Hunter The 49ers running back tore his Achilles in the 49ers Week 12 win over the New Orleans Saints. We had not heard much on the extent of the injury or his rehab progre...
  • 49ers salary cap: Parys Haralson agrees to restructure contract
The 49ers continue working with their veterans to clear salary cap space. A week after Mario Manningham agreed to a lower base salary, outside linebacker Parys Haralson has agreed to a decreased salary. According to Ian Rapoport, Haralson agreed to a new contract worth $1.3 million with incentives that could boost it to $1.7 million. He was previously on the books for $2.87 million in 2013. Haralson missed all of last season with a torn triceps muscle, and was a strong candidate to be a cap casualty. He likely recognize that he would be looking at no more than the veteran's minimum if ...
  • 49ers salary cap: Mario Manningham restructures contract
Fooch's Note: Per Maiocco, the new contract removes a $250,000 roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus and incentives. While the 49ers have some cap space they are close enough that a little extra room could do them some good. Accordingly, they appear to have made a move to clear up some space. According to our man Jason Hurley, it appears Mario Manningham has reduced his 2013 base salary from $3.6 million to $1.8 million. Manningham is entering the final year of his contract, so this likely means a chunk of it was moved into some kind of incentives that could be unlikely to be earne...
  • San Francisco 49ers positional review: Wide receivers
The wide receiver position was a big question mark this offseason, as Joshua Morgan departed for free agency, the legendary Brett Swain wasn't brought back, and Michael Crabtree still hadn't quite come into his own. Nobody can suggest that the 49ers didn't make a concentrated effort to improve the position, of course. They signed Mario Manningham and Randy Moss in free agency, and made A.J. Jenkins their first-round pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. That being said, the position turned out to be very poor last season. Their were significant injuries to both Manningham and Kyle Williams, the ...
  • 49ers salary cap 2013, cut candidates: Mario Manningham
Last offseason, the 49ers made a calculated decision to let wide receiver Josh Morgan walk, and in turn sign Giants free agent Mario Manningham. Both receivers signed two year contracts and put up similar numbers in 2012, but the 49ers saved about four million dollars in going with Manningham. Manningham tore his ACL and PCL in the 49ers Week 16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Reports indicate he is looking at a late training camp return. Although it sounds like he will be back in 2013, we bring him up as a cap cut candidate strictly because of the injury. Cap Casualty Candidates: Davi...
  • Manningham has to watch big game
Mario Manningham hobbled into the Superdome stands on crutches and found an out-of-the-way seat to watch his San Francisco teammates go through media day frenzy on the field below, his emotions mixed. It's been nearly two weeks since the 49ers wide receiver underwent reconstructive surgery on his left knee and almost a year since he made the catch of his life in the Giants' Super Bowl victory. Manningham hoped to be playing on the New Orleans turf Sunday, when the 49ers face the Baltimore Ravens in the franchise's first Super Bowl in 18 years and with a perfect 5-0 championship record to prote...
  • Mario: I did something most scared to do
Mario Manningham didn’t envision himself being back at the Super Bowl on crutches. But the San Francisco receiver and former Giant, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in Week 16, is happy to be with a team in the Super Bowl for the second straight year. "I can’t complain," Manningham said in New Orleans, according to the New York Post. “I’m a little banged up, but I can’t complain at this time of the year to be down here.
