Felix Jones to Return Kicks; Dez Bryant to Return Punts

Blogging The BoysFelix Jones to Return Kicks; Dez Bryant to Return Punts It looks as if Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis has his return guys set for Sunday night's game against the Redskins. Consistent with the team's depth chart, Felix Jones will remain Dallas' primary kickoff returner to start off the year. He is also still listed behind Marion Barber at tailback. Dez Bryant will be the team's first option at punt returner now that Patrick Crayton is a Charger. Akwasi Owusu-Ansah will back up both return spots.

Barber speaks

Cowboys Blog | San Antonio Express-News — IRVING - Cowboys media-shy running back Marion Barber spoke to reporters for 3 minutes in what was probably his longest interview since entering the league in 2005. Here are some highlights: On sharing carries with Felix Jones and Tashard Choice: "It's all good. We come to work every day, go hard in practice and it helps all of us as a whole." On whether it's been frustrating battling injuries the last two seasons: "It can be, but you just got to be prepared and do whatever you do during the season and then offseason." On losing 10 pounds: "Just eating better. As you get older in the game, man...

On the offensive line: "We got guys that can come in and fill in and take care of the job too." Scouting report on the Cowboys' roster

Fort-Worth Star Telegram — By Clarence E. Hill Jr. QuarterbacksTony Romo(Backups: Jon Kitna,Stephen McGee) Romo is no longer a gunslinger with gaudy stats and a penchant for mistakes. He has redefined himself as a complete quarterback and a leader after a 2009 season in which he led the Cowboys to the NFC East title and their first playoff win in 13 years. Now the question is whether he is ready to take the next and final step toward immortality.Running BacksRB Marion Barber, FB Deon Anderson (Backups: Felix Jones, Tashard Choice, FB Chris Gronkowski) The running game didn't look good in the preseason and if this wa...

A look at the Cowboys' 53-man roster

Dallas Cowboys Blog | ESPN Dallas — This isn’t necessarily the Cowboys’ final 53-man roster. They still might make a transaction or two before the season opener. But here’s how the 53-man roster looks after final cuts Saturday: QUARTERBACKS (3): Tony Romo, Jon Kitna, Stephen McGee The Cowboys believe Tony Romo's poor preseason is an aberration. They're confident that Kitna is an adequate backup, especially after solid performance in his final two preseason performances. McGee provided hope in the preseason finale that he's a decent developmental project. RUNNING BACKS (3): Marion Barber, Felix Jones, Tashar...

A daring look at the 53-man roster

Dallas Cowboys Blog | ESPN Dallas — We are a few hours away from official NFL roster cuts. Here's my daring look at how the 53-man roster is going to shake up. This is unofficial: Quarterbacks: Tony Romo, Jon Kitna and Stephen McGee. Comment: No surprises. Running backs: Marion Barber, Tashard Choice, Felix Jones and Chris Gronkowski Comment: The Cowboys took calls on Barber and Choice but elected to keep them. Gronkowski beats out Deon Anderson by a nose. Tight ends: Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett Comment: Maybe Martin Rucker is here, but he didn't have enough time to get it done. If not for John Phillips' injury, he ...

Dallas Cowboys Blog | ESPN Dallas — After five weeks of training camp and five preseason games, the Turk swings the axe on Saturday afternoon. Here's how we envision the roster shaping up: QUARTERBACKS (3): Tony Romo, Jon Kitna, Stephen McGee McGee made sure that he wasn’t on the bubble by treating the Miami defense like Texas. For the first time as a pro, he played with swagger while displaying all the attributes the Cowboys liked when they drafted him in the fourth round: arm strength, athleticism, intelligence and character. photo1RUNNING BACKS (3): Marion Barber, Felix Jones, Tashard Choice The preseason numbers f...

Offense struggles early

Cowboys Blog | San Antonio Express-News — HOUSTON - The Cowboys first-team offense entered tonight's game against the Texans with only one preseason touchdown on seven possessions. Judging by the unit's early play, they could go scoreless yet again. It was three and out for Tony Romo & Co. on the game's opening possession. Marion Barber got dropped for a 3-yard loss on second down and Romo was sacked for minus 12 on third down. The possession wasted a 41-yard kickoff return by rookie Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.
