  • Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck Wants To End Slavery, Push Andrew Luck
I will admit that it sounds weird referring to Matt Hasselbeck as "the quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts." Granted, he was signed to a two-year deal solely to act as Andrew Luck's back-up, but I still consider Hasselback as the leading passer in Seattle Seahawks history. After he left there, he spent two seasons playing against the Colts for the AFC South division rival Tennessee Titans. His role now is different than at those previous jobs, but what's interesting is that the former 6th round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 1998 seems to generate just as much media interest now i...
  • Tennessee Titans News Links: Local Yokels
Not a lot of links today, but I'm sure things will pick up as the draft draws nearer. The Titans have been taking advantage of the unlimited local player visits as they have taken a look at guys on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball from local colleges. The Music City Miracle is now in the sweet 16 of GOAT play voting.Vote now for our blogs namesake! Also vote for Eddie George for the Madden Cover voting. Matt Hasselbeck is still in shock from getting released. He says it will be tough on his family. Tyrann Mathieu aced his pro day, I still really want the Titans to ...
  • New Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck Still 'In Shock' That The Titans Cut Him
Former Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal with the Colts last week with the understanding that he will back-up Andrew Luck. However, the fact that Hasselbeck is now the "former" Tennessee quarterback still hasn't quite sunk in yet for the 14-year veteran signal caller. Recently, Hasselbeck confided to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean that the last week has been a pretty major upheaval in his life: So when Hasselbeck found out last week the Titans were releasing him, he immediately thought of his three young children — daughters Annabelle and Mallory as ...
  • New Colts Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck Excited About Working With Andrew Luck
We've gotten a bit obsessed recently in our attempts to find out who Jim Irsay's "wopper" wide receiver is that we haven't spent enough time talking about the 2013 Colts free agent acquisitions that we, you know, LIKE! In fact, because of the Darrius Heyward-Bey visit, I've had to hold off publishing my free agent signing likes and dislikes article. One signing I did like was the franchise inking quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who was released last week by the Tennessee Titans. Not a lot has been written about Hasselbeck coming to Indy, and it almost makes me wonder if fans and media hav...
  • The Colts Signing Matt Hasselbeck Will Benefit The 'Under-Prepared' Chandler Harnish The Most
Everyone seems to think that Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback Andrew Luck will benefit the most from the team's signing of veteran QB Matt Hasselbeck, who was recently released by the Tennessee Titans. Yes, it almost goes without saying that Hasselbeck will help Luck, and, in many ways, he is a significant upgrade at his position over Drew Stanton. Nothing against Stanton, who was an excellent acquisition last year for Colts general manager Ryan Grigson, but he's better suited for the offense Bruce Arians likes to run; a down-the-field, vertical offense looking for big plays in ...

  • Colts Sign Veteran DT Aubrayo Franklin
Not too long after signing veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, the Indianapolis Colts have signed another veteran. The team announced a deal with defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin, a 10 year vet. Franklin will play nose tackle for the Colts. Details on the contract have yet to be announced. For his career, the 6-1, 317 pound tackle has 181 tackles, 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and one interception. Franklin was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2003 and spent the first four years of his career there. He then signed with the 49ers in 2007 and enjoyed the best stretch of his career,...

  • NFL free agency 2013: Should the Cardinals have brought in Matt Hasselbeck?
The Tennessee Titans announced on Monday that they released veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck from their roster, making him a free agent. Many teams will undoubtedly be interested in bringing Hasselbeck in as a backup and tutor to younger quarterbacks, but are there any starting jobs still out there for him? How about with the Arizona Cardinals? Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com doesn't think the Cards will have interest after already signing Drew Stanton and placing a 2nd round tender on Brian Hoyer. Not the Cards. MT @hallchris57: @kentsomers @cardschatter Hasselbeck released. Would...
  • Signing Matt Hasselbeck a Good Move for Colts
The news reported last night became official today, as the Indianapolis Colts signed veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to a 2-year, $8 million deal. The fourteen year veteran will back up Andrew Luck and will provide valuable insight and mentoring to the young quarterback. While the details of the contract aren't known yet other than that it is for 2-years and $8 million, just going off of a purely balanced contract would mean that the Colts would be paying a backup quarterback $4 million a year. [It could be a backloaded contract similar to the one given to Kerry Collins when he w...
  • Colts Sign Former Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck
The Colts have now made official what everyone was reporting last night, that former Titans and Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck has been signed to play backup QB to Andrew Luck. There are few details at this time, but speculation last night was the deal would be for two years, $8 Million (from Bob Kravitz). A bit steep, but the Colts have been pretty generous this offseason already, so why stop now? Hasselbeck became available earlier Tuesday when the Titans released him after signing former Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a two year deal, presumably to compete with Jack Locker. Hasselbeck wa...
  • Tennessee Titans News Links: Goodbye Dear Friend
My apologies that there are not many links today. Even with the cutting of the ever classy Matt Hasselbeck. I like how he was very professional and gracious in everything that happened, including losing the starting job to Jake Locker. Now that we cut Hasselbeck, Ryan Fitzpatrick has been signed as the backup for the next two years and to push Jake more than Hass could at this stage in his career. USA Today gave us a B for our FA so far. I still would give us an A. The compensatory picks are out now and the Titans have 3. Here's a breakdown of all of our picks in the upcoming draft. ...
  • Report: Colts Will Sign QB Matt Hasselbeck To Back-Up Andrew Luck
Well, it didn't take long for former-Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to find a new team. Less than 24 hours after he was dumped by Tennessee, Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Hasselbeck will sign with the Indianapolis Colts tomorrow to be Andrew Luck's back-up. Mind you, Schefter's report does not sound like this deal is final, but it does make it sound as if Hasselbeck signing his name on the dotted line is a mere formality. And no, before you ask, Matt Hasselbeck does not also play wide receiver. What he does do is play quarterback pretty well. He has a career 60% completio...
