VIDEO: Lions teammate impressions 2.0 is better than the first

Bet you can’t watch without laughing. A week ago, the Detroit Lions dropped a video of players doing impressions of each other. As with much of the video content the team has been dropping this offseason, it was awesome. The Lions dropped part 2 of the impression game on Friday, and unlike most sequels, it may have topped the original. Check it out: Another episode of teammate impersonations is here - and the Matthew Stafford and Darius Slay impressions are pretty great https://t.co/GRN2oDoXHW pic.twitter.com/JK1HGK1s0u— Tori Petry (@sportstori) July 20, 2018 I don’t even...

1 Lions player ranked in top 50 NFL merchandise sale, and it’s not who you think

1 Lions player ranked in top 50 NFL merchandise sale, and it’s not who you think

It’s not this guy. Earlier in the offseason, we noted that Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford ranked in the top 15 in jersey sales according to Dick’s Sporting Goods. Unfortunately, when it comes to full merchandise sales for official NFL apparel, neither Stafford nor any Lions player were among the league’s most profitable. This week, the NFLPA dropped the list of the 50 players with the most merchandise sales between March 1 and May 31, and no Lions player made the list... well, with an asterisk. No Lions player that was on the team last year is on the list. Surprisingly,...

The bottom line is, if Matthew Stafford plays well the Detroit Lions have a chance to make some noise in January. If he doesn’t, they don’t.

MUST SEE: 2018 Detroit Lions hype video features Barry Sanders

On September 10, the Detroit Lions will open up their 2018 campaign on Monday Night Football at Ford Field against the New York Jets. It will be the first regular season game for Matt Patricia as head coach of the Lions and you can bet Detroit fans will be fired up for what is being looked at as a new beginning. After finishing 9-7 and missing the NFL Playoffs last season, the Lions fired Jim Caldwell and general manager Bob Quinn vowed that this team would be better moving forward. With Matthew Stafford under center, surrounded by a trio of ultra-talented receivers and what should be a much...

Open thread: How much more will the Lions run the ball in 2018?

Open thread: How much more will the Lions run the ball in 2018?

Will the Lions run the ball that much more in 2018? Last year, the Detroit Lions were one of the most pass-heavy teams in the NFL. Not only did Matthew Stafford have the fourth most passing attempts in the league, but the Lions, as a team, passed the ball 63 percent of all offensive snaps. Only the Miami Dolphins threw the ball at a higher percentage in 2017 (63.8 percent). But the Lions are poised to change that ratio this season. There was a clear focus this offseason to beef up the running game, and both general manager Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia have made it no secret that...

Will Dak Prescott have same success Daunte Culpepper, Matthew Stafford did in Year 3 with Scott Linehan?

Will Dak Prescott have same success Daunte Culpepper, Matthew Stafford did in Year 3 with Scott Linehan?

Year 3 has been a good one for quarterbacks working with Scott Linehan as their offensive coordinator.Daunte Culpepper's best statistical season came in his third year with Linehan in Minnesota. The same can be said of Matthew Stafford in Detroit. So what does that mean for Dak Prescott as he enters his third season with Linehan in Dallas?Well, not much if multiple Cowboys receivers fail to make up for the loss of Dez Bryant. One of the biggest differences between the three quarterbacks is that Prescott won't be working with a perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver. Culpepper had Randy Moss. Stafford...

Have Matt Nagy’s Bears done enough to turn the tide on the Lions?

Have Matt Nagy’s Bears done enough to turn the tide on the Lions?

With an overhauled coaching staff and offensive roster, have the Bears done enough to turn the tide on the Lions? Breaking down history and their matchup with Detroit on the latest WCG Radio. There’s no nice way to put it: the Bears haven’t had the best fortune in overcoming the Lions in recent years. Chicago’s NFC North rival has won nine of the last 10 meetings with the Bears. They’ve done that in large part due to sustained quarterback consistency in the form of Matthew Stafford, while the Bears have run through a few head coaches, occasional organizational turmoil, and the...

Does Matthew Stafford still have to prove himself?

Matthew 0Stafford still has many non-believers both nationally and locally in his ability to make the Detroit Lions champions, but is this perception fair? The Detroit Lions are no stranger to being overlooked or underestimated. Both as a team and the individual players that have worn the Honolulu Blue and Silver. Open thread: What record could the 2018 Lions could break?

What’s an NFL record you think the 2018 Lions are capable of breaking? Records Week is coming to an end here at SB Nation. If you missed it, we had two different articles this week discussing the Detroit Lions and NFL records. First, we talked about whether any current NFL wide receivers were capable of beating the Lions’ most impressive note in the record book: Calvin Johnson’s 1,964-yard season back in 2012. Later, Ryan Mathews talked about whether Matthew Stafford could set the career passing yards record, which is very much a realistic possibility. Now, let’s talk about the...

Detroit Lions: Was the NFL’s ranking of Matthew Stafford fair?

While waiting for football to begin, Detroit Lions fans have time to debate the NFL Top 100 ranking of Matthew 0Stafford. Is No. 31 too low or just right? Here at Kick in the Crotch Weekly (what I’ve dubbed my Detroit Lions fandom and long-suffering), it’s a slow time of year for Lions news. How does Matthew Stafford perform with a lead?

How does Matthew Stafford perform with a lead?

Is Matthew Stafford efficient when the Lions are in the lead? It’s been a crazy few weeks for yours truly. I spent some time in Philadelphia eating more food than I’ve ever eaten in my life. I cheated on my diet so hard that it made whatever Dean Blandino and Jerry Jones did to the Lions in 2014 look like a protocol move. Then I got a kitten named Loki. Look at the guy. I love it when a plan comes together pic.twitter.com/7QKNKHoPu7— Mike Payton (@POD_Payton) June 22, 2018 We mulled over a ton of different names. I had a great idea for one, but it would have sounded weird if...

Glover Quin outplayed nearly his entire draft class in 2017

Glover Quin outplayed nearly his entire draft class in 2017

Only one player from the 2009 NFL Draft had a better season than the Lions safety. The 2009 NFL Draft was one that Detroit Lions fans will remember forever. It’s the year that Matthew Stafford was drafted first overall, and it was the beginning of the era in which the Lions pulled themselves out of the basement of the league. The rest of the draft that year wasn’t all that impressive, to be frank. Nine years later, of all 256 players drafted, only 26 have made a Pro Bowl, including just one top 10 draft pick other than Stafford (B.J. Raji). But way down at pick No. 112 in the fourth...

Matthew Stafford could end up being the NFL’s most prolific passer, ever

Matthew Stafford could end up being the NFL’s most prolific passer, ever

Matthew Stafford is on pace to set the record for passing yards in a career, but will he do it, and is any younger player a threat for the top spot should he secure it? Another day, another installment in SB Nation’s topic for the week: Records Week. Today, it’s an examination of the Detroit Lions’ current starting quarterback, the face of their franchise, Matthew Stafford. Ever since taking over the reins as the starting quarterback of a team that went 0-16 the previous season, the team has had no problem making use of Stafford’s incredible arm talent often, and the numbers just...
