Detroit Lions — Running back by committee?

Detroit Lions — Running back by committee?

ALLEN PARK — It’s a new day and a new offense for the Detroit Lions as they work out during the first week of training camp. The rotation of players on the field in 7-on-7 and team drills is fast and furious, giving several players opportunities. When it comes to running backs, expect a different look. Just not sure exactly what that will be yet. “(The running back rotation) is yet to be determined,’’ quarterback Matthew Stafford said on Monday. “This league seems to be going running back by committee more and more. “Who knows if that will be us, but it’s such a...

Lions' Matthew Stafford embraces challenge of learning new offense

It would have been natural for Stafford be resistant to a new offense, especially at first. There has been no pushback, no complaining. All Stafford did was roll up his sleeves and, as he said Monday after the first day of training camp, 'did everything I could to immerse myself in it.'

Lions pleased with Stafford's progress

QB showed improvement in every facet HC Jim Caldwell had the quarterbacks report last week, so they could be ahead of the learning curve with the new offense. At that time, he told QB Matthew Stafford he was impressed with his understanding of the new offense considering all the new verbiage and increased pace. "I was impressed when he came back that first of all he did not miss a beat," Caldwell said. "He's a very, very smart guy. In every facet when he came back, I could see improvement - footwork, accuracy, timing, command of the offense, all of those things." (Detroit News) ...

Lions QB Stafford enters new phase of career -- when many greats took off

The Lions will start training camp Monday. But Matthew Stafford will start something entirely more significant. After five years in the NFL, the Lions' talented-but-inconsistent quarterback will begin the second part of his career. And if history is any indication, Stafford's next five years are likely to be better than his first five.

Lions notes: Matthew Stafford, helmet rankings, more

Lions notes looks at Matthew Stafford, NFL helmet rankings and much more. ESPN's Ron Jaworski has Matthew Stafford 16th in his 2014 quarterback rankings. The Detroit Lions came in 18th in Cincy Jungle's NFL helmet rankings. Why wasn't their helmet design ranked higher? Cincy Jungle is not a fan of the Lions' use of the color black: "Go back to the blue facemask and the blue and white stripe. Get rid of the black." How are players paid during training camp? Dave Birkett has the answer: Don't forget, pay is different in training camp. Vets make $1,700 a week, rookies and first-year...
