Giants face decision on Prince Amukamara's contract option

One of the last offseason decisions the Giants have to make before next month's draft has nothing to do with the 2014 season. The deadline for the team to decide whether to pick up the fifth-year option on Prince Amukamara's rookie contract -- and pay him around $7 million for the 2015 season -- is May 3.

It will be months before the Jets’ quarterback competition is decided, but Geno Smith already believes he knows who the victor will be. Asked Monday, when the team’s offseason program began, if he still thought he would be the Jets’ starting quarterback this coming season even after the addition of Michael Vick, the second-year quarterback didn’t beat around the bush. “Yes,” he said.

2014 APC Mock Draft: Philadelphia Eagles Select Brandin Cooks

With the 22nd pick in our Acme Packing Company mock draft, the Eagles select a possible replacement for DeSean Jackson. After a bizarre couple of weeks for the team due to the DeSean Jackson fallout, the Philadelphia Eagles are now on the clock with the 22nd overall pick in our Acme Packing Company mock draft. Background The Eagles went a disappointing 4-12 in 2012, but rebounded well in 2013 by going 10-6 and making the playoffs while getting continuity at the quarterback position. Nick Foles took over for Michael Vick behind center, while LeSean "Shady" McCoy broke more ankles on his way...

Confident Geno not fazed by Vick signing

Geno Smith spoke to the metropolitan-area media for the first time since the Jets signed Michael Vick last month, and the second-year quarterback made it clear today he expects to win the battle for the starting job. When asked on a conference call if he expected to be the Jets’ starter at QB this season, Smith replied, “Yes.” When asked to elaborate on why, he cited, “My belief in myself, knowing that I’m going to take every action possible to get better and to come into this season a better player.” Smith also noted that he and the rest of the offensive personnel will be more...

What Is The Most Memorable Draft Trade In Falcons History?

There's a clear winner. The Falcons have made a ton of draft day trades over the years, including a few famous ones under the current regime. That does assume you consider any trade involving Sam Baker famous and not infamous. When this thought popped into my head, I went back through the history of this franchise to find all the draft trades of note over the years. There are many worth chronicling, but for the purposes of this exercise, I'm going to pick just the one that is most memorable. There's only one choice in my mind. That would be the 2001 trade for Michael Vick. The Falcons had...

Johnson: Vick, Smith to battle for top spot

In his first full day as a member of the Jets, running back Chris Johnson gave some insight into the competition for quarterback. Apparently, it’s a fair fight. Johnson told Michael Kay and Don La Greca on ESPN New York’s 98.7 that the Jets plan to have Geno Smith and Michael Vick compete for the starting job during the team’s training camp in Cortland, NY. Any idea who had the inside track? “They didn’t give me no indication,” Johnson said.

Darrelle Revis Predicted the Future: Vick/Johnson Using Read-Option

Darrelle Revis Predicted the Future: Vick/Johnson Using Read-Option

During the 2011 season, the New York Jets lost to the Denver Broncos 13-17 on a game winning drive led by Tim Tebow. In Collision Low Crossers, Nick Dawidoff suggested that loss was the turning point in a promising season and what led to the team's subsequent toilet spiral. Tebow led the Broncos using the read-option with Willis McGahee, with a combined twenty rushing attempts. Before the game, noted traitor Darrelle Revis stated that he didn't think the read-option could be sustained for a full season with Tebow and McGahee. However, he stated that: "Yeah, if you have Michael Vick and...

2014 NFL Mock Draft: Jets Pick a Receiver

2014 NFL Mock Draft: Jets Pick a Receiver

SB Nation's latest mock draft has the Jets taking a wide receiver. 18.  New York Jets - Odell Beckham Jr., WR, LSU A quarterback controversy is already brewing in New York after the Jets signed Michael Vick. Whether it's Vick or Geno Smith under center, another receiver would help quite a bit. Eric Decker was a nice start, but a player like Odell Beckham, who has the speed to burn defenses deep, would add a different element to New York's offense. Maybe with Beckham in the fold, Geno Smith won't have to play wide receiver and quarterback. Interestingly, Teddy Bridgewater and...
