One Bears offseason change? It’s got to be Glennon

One Bears offseason change? It’s got to be Glennon

The Bears made their biggest offseason impact in the draft, but the biggest offseason news was Mike Glennon. Based on how they used him, the move was a mistake. Would you believe me if I told you that I still don’t think it was necessarily a bad idea for the Bears to sign Mike Glennon? I guess you would, if only because I’ve packed that sentence with so many qualifiers that any perceived hard statement therein is irrelevant. I’m telling you this because Lester passed along SB Nation’s latest roundtable question, which I jumped on: Now that the season has begun to play out, what...

Bears vs. Vikings: Notes from a nail-biting 20-17 loss

Bears vs. Vikings: Notes from a nail-biting 20-17 loss

Progress was made, but ultimately the result was the same. Mitch Trubisky looked impressive on his first NFL drive. Sure, the end result wasn’t ideal, but the offense looked much more efficient than it ever was under Mike Glennon. Trubisky completed three of his four passes for 30 yards, and his only incompletion was a drop by Dion Sims. The Bears utilized his athleticism and ability to throw well on the run by running bootleg plays, which would be a precursor of things to come. The Bears called a timeout on their gutsy fourth-down conversion attempt early in the fourth quarter. They...

Monday Night Football Live: Vikings vs. Bears

Monday Night Football Live: Vikings vs. Bears

It’s time for the footballing finale to Week 5 in the NFL. While the metaphorical death of various NFL careers is being pondered around the league, a new career will be birthed at Soldier Field tonight. That’s right, the No.3 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Mitchell Trubisky, will make his first start for the Chicago Bears. The Bears had previously backed Mike Glennon and his $19 million guaranteed, but a 1-3 start featuring a slew of poor performances from Glennon resulted in John Fox turning the reigns over to his rookie QB. Unfortunately for Trubisky and the Bears, he will be making...

Windy City Gridiron picks Mitch-a-palooza

It's Mitch Trubisky's Bears debut. Does the home team come out on top? The WCG staff make their picks on "Monday Night Football." With apologies to Mike Glennon and "his year", it's been eight years since the Chicago Bears were set to unveil a quarterback most of the city was truly excited about. If you'll remember the once traded for Jay Cutler made his debut against the rival Green Bay Packers on "Sunday Night Football" in September 2009. Four interceptions later in a 21-15 loss, that, uh, didn't go so smoothly. But tonight on "Monday Night Football" at home at Soldier Field, No. 2...

Thoughts On The NFL: Week 4

Thoughts On The NFL: Week 4

What stood out around the NFL after Week 4 Chicago vs. Green Bay In retrospect, the end of the Mike Glennon era in Chicago was overdue to end. The Bears made it clear long ago that Mitch Trubisky is their guy when they traded up to the 2nd overall pick in the draft to select him. Though their confidence in him is inspiring I’m not sure the rookie will perform much better with the depleted receiving core on the Bears and so so offensive line. We’ll find out next week but I have a feeling the tenure of John Fox and Ryan Race will be defined by how Trubisky performs for the next 12 games....

The Worst Chicago Quarterback in Recent History

The Worst Chicago Quarterback in Recent History

Was not named Mike Glennon. In fact, it was hard to narrow down the list to just a few contenders. Mike Glennon is no longer the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. In his time leading Chicago’s offense, he recorded a 76.9 passer rating and managed 4.12 ANY/A. That’s bad, and neither of those metrics penalize him for his five fumbles. He was expected to be a slightly below average placeholder, and he failed even at that. However, he is nowhere near the worst starter in Bears’ history. In fact, he’s not even close to the worst starter since the Bears last won a Super Bowl....

Chicago Bears Sackwatch 2017: Week 4 vs Green Bay Packers

Chicago Bears Sackwatch 2017: Week 4 vs Green Bay Packers

With Mike Glennon sliding to the bench and Mitchell Trubisky taking the reigns, it’s (hopefully) the end of an era. Glennon played much, much worse than I thought he would. I figured he’d be a serviceable, turnover-free type of quarterback, but that never happened. I was among the many that figured Glennon would be able to hold down the fort while Trubisky took his time learning the pro game, but two things happened. One, Trubisky picked things up quicker than the Bears expected, and two, Glennon wasn’t very good. Let’s see how things have progressed through four games over the...

The Infantry: Recapping Bears rookie (and sophomore) performances from Week 4

The Infantry: Recapping Bears rookie (and sophomore) performances from Week 4

One last look back at last week’s awfulness before we set our sights on Minnesota this Monday. In the final game of the short-lived Mike Glennon era, the Chicago Bears were dismantled by the Green Bay Packers in a 35-14 rout. Despite the game seeming winnable on paper, struggles in all three phases plagued the Bears throughout the game. While Glennon failed miserably, the running attack was a tad bit better. Jordan Howard ran for 53 yards on 18 carries - which averages to a measly 2.9 yards-per-carry, but he was able to add a touchdown in garbage time. .@JHowardx24 is IN for the...

NFL Power Rankings: Is this the lowest the Bears will be all season?

NFL Power Rankings: Is this the lowest the Bears will be all season?

I think most Chicago Bears fans will like to forget the first quarter of the 2017 season. The Mike Glennon era will eventually be nothing but a small blip in Bears lore, and if Mitchell Trubisky lives up to the hype, 2017 will be forever be known as the season the future started. The Bears were embarrassed back on Thursday night football, losing 35-14 to the Gren Bay Packers, and it wasn’t even that close. I’d imagine that the various power rankers out there are going to be hard on the 1-3 Bears, but the future looks bight. We’ll start our trip around the power rankings with SB...

What will the Mitchell Trubisky offense look like?

What will the Mitchell Trubisky offense look like?

In Lester’s latest T Formation Conversation podcast, he discusses how the Chicago Bears’ offense will differ with Mitchell Trubisky starting at quarterback instead of Mike Glennon. Chicago Bears’ fans, we will finally get a look at what the future holds this Monday night, when the Minnesota Vikings visit Soldier Field to take on the Bears in Mitchell Trubisky’s NFL debut. We got a glimpse of the Trubisky offense this preseason, and that was enough to whet most of our appetites for the whole enchilada. While some were ready for the rookie to start the second he was drafted, others...
