Pats Pulpit — Taking quick position by position look at the Patriots' draft needs in the hours leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft: Quarterback: Not a need for the Patriots, with back-up quarterbacks Ryan Mallett and Mike Kafka providing solid depth as 2nd and 3rd options. However, if Ryan Mallett is dealt, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Patriots target someone to develop late. Possible Target: Jeff Tuel, Washington State. Current personnel: Tom Brady, Ryan Mallett, Mike Kafka Need level: Low Overview: Brady is under contract for five more seasons and continues to play at an elite level. The Patriots are in no rush to find a new starter and Mallett is already considered a promising back-up. Throw in an interesting prospect in Kafka (who generated buzz after a strong rookie preseason back in 2010), and the Patriots have little need to invest in a quarterback right now.
