Minnesota Vikings Roster Cuts: Kafka Trial Ends In Unemployment

With the moves they've made recently, the Minnesota Vikings had to make one move by 3:00 PM Central to get to the NFL-mandated 75-player limit, and they've made that move by releasing the odd man out on the quarterback depth chart. The team has announced that they have released quarterback Mike Kafka. The team had signed Kafka (and defensive end Caesar Rayford) following this year's first-ever Veteran Combine, but they have now both been released in the first round of cuts. Kafka got a lot of work in the Hall of Fame Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, completing 7-of-10 attempts for 66...

Vikings waive QB Mike Kafka to get down to mandated 75 players

The Viking announced this morning that they have waived quarterback Mike Kafka, who did not practice yesterday, with an injured designation. Kafka has played sparingly this preseason. He went 7-for-10 for 66 yards and a touchdown against the Steelers in the Hall of Fame Game. Since then, he has thrown just three passes, completing two of them for nine yards. The move gets the Vikings down to 75 players before today’s deadline. The move also leaves them with three quarterbacks on the roster heading into Thursday’s preseason finale. With Teddy Bridgewater not expected to play and backup...

The move drops Minnesota down to the required 75-man active roster by Tuesday's deadline. The team must be down to 53 by Saturday. The move on Kafka means rookie Taylor Heinicke might be the third quarterback behind Teddy Bridgewater and Shaun Hill. However, it is not...

Vikings quarterback Mike Kafka probably out Thursday at Tennessee with strained hamstring

By Chris Tomasson ctomasson@pioneerpress.com Vikings quarterback Mike Kafka probably won't play in Thursday's preseason finale at Tennessee because of a strained hamstring. A source said Monday that Kafka suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 28-14 preseason win at Dallas. He left the game after one series and was replaced by rookie Taylor Heinicke, who had played from the third quarter into early in the fourth and was thought to be done for the night. Kafka, who didn't do anything in the portion of practice open Monday to the media, is battling Heinicke for the third-string...
