Lions RB Jahvid Best still wants to play again

FFToolbox.com — Jahvid Best is still property of the Lions, but he hasn't played in a game in 17 months. Numerous concussions have left him on the sidelines and although he says he feels good and is symptom-free, he has yet to gain clearance from an independent neurologist to resume full-contact practices. He has been encouraged by teammates such as Nate Burleson to retire, and head coach Jim Schwartz has said Best is not in their plans for this season. But Best isn't ready to give up yet. The Detroit Lions created $5.5 million in cap room by restructuring the contracts of wide receiver Nate Burleson and center Dominic Raiola, according to Dave Birkett. Their deals were restructured earlier this month in an effort to give the Lions more flexibility with the salary cap, and $5.5 million is a pretty significant savings. Raiola's new base salary for 2013 is close to the veteran's minimum, but it turns out it's a little higher than originally reported. Birkett reports that Raiola now has a base salary of $1 million, and his cap number is $3.012 million. His salary is down fr...

  • Nate Burleson agrees to restructure contract with Lions
Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson has agreed to restructure his contract for 2013, according to Dave Birkett. The deal is apparently not official just yet, but the move will give the Lions additional cap space to work with when free agency opens in March. Since Burleson is under contract through 2014, it's not clear if this restructure means taking a pay cut or moving money to next year. I'd have to imagine it's the former since Burleson was set to have a base salary of $4.5 million in 2013. Before restructuring his contract, his cap hit was around $6.5 million for this year pa...
