Navorro Bowman: Making progress but still not satisfied with himself

All of the accolades for Navorro Bowman are nice, but the returning linebacker says he still has work to do. Most people who have watched any of the second and third preseason games for the San Francisco 49ers have remarked at how well NaVorro Bowman has played after sitting out for over a year following a gruesome knee injury in the January 2014 NFC Championship game vs. Seattle. He played the first three snaps vs. Dallas and had three tackles, two for a loss. He played a surprising 42 snaps vs. Denver and he recorded seven solo tackles, two for a loss, two assists, two sacks and two QB...

49ers vs. Broncos recap: Taking a look at NaVorro Bowman's big day, Michael Wilhoite's play

NaVorro Bowman is back, and he proved it on Saturday against the Denver Broncos. Inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman is the best player on the San Francisco 49ers. That statement is one I've made more than once this offseason, but it's one that always had an asterisk on it, because it hinged on an "if." Given the severity of the injury he sustained in 2013, nobody quite knew whether or not he'd return to form. Thus far, Bowman has seen action in two preseason games and while we can't quite definitively state that he's recovered 100 percent -- this will be a question for as long as the 49ers...

Final: Offensive line woes overshadow defensive heroics of NaVorro Bowman, Kenneth Acker

As terrific as NaVorro Bowman looked in his encore, as impressive as first-time starter Kenneth Acker was at cornerback, the 49ers offensive line justified serious concerns about its dependability.

The San Francisco 49ers made some adjustments to their starting defense for preseason game number three. We take a quick look at it. The San Francisco 49ers have been rotating defensive players all around trying to find the right combination, and we got another option on Saturday vs. the Denver Broncos. The 49ers rolled out some adjustments reflecting a mix of injuries and returning players. The big return was Michael Wilhoite, who had been on the NFI list with a muscle strain. He is starting next to NaVorro Bowman. The big departure is Ahmad Brooks, who went back to California following...

NaVorro Bowman downplays 2-hour practice/game prep comment

There was some chatter this week about NaVorro Bowman's comments regarding his prep time for practice and games. It turns out he thinks the discussion was a little overblown. Earlier this week, Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback column had a lengthy feature on San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman. In it, we heard from Bowman that he takes two hours of prep time to get ready for practice and games. Rodney Harrison was concerned that this might mean Bowman came back to soon, and other teams might target his knees given the recovery time. It turns out it might have been a little...

Michael Wilhoite talks return to practice, 49ers defensive line, NaVorro Bowman

The San Francisco 49ers welcomed Michael Wilhoite back to practice on Tuesday. He spoke with the media, discussing getting back to practice, playing on Saturday, the team's new-look defensive line, and NaVorro Bowman's return. We've got a full transcript, and you can watch video here. Question not heard: Obviously, you know, everything's moving a little faster than usual. Trying to get the calls out, trying to see what the offense is doing, figuring out how to play each play, use my teammates to my advantage, to my help. But I thought it was good. I was just happy to be there. I mean it's...

Michael Wilhoite – starter

Linebacker Michael Wilhoite just isn’t used to this kind of treatment. A undrafted free agent who made the team from the practice squad, Wilhoite came off a training camp-long injury on Tuesday and was immediately installed into the starting defense along side NaVorro Bowman. Even though Wilhoite started last year for the injured Bowman, the
