Should The Minnesota Vikings Retire #84?

Should The Minnesota Vikings Retire #84?

The Vikings haven’t retired many numbers. This is one they probably should. UPDATE: The folks from The Viking Age had a post about retiring Randy Moss' number up before we did. I should have given them the acknowledgement the first time around, and I apologize for not having done so. In the history of the franchise, the Minnesota Vikings have retired only six numbers to keep them out of further rotation. 10 - Fran Tarkenton53 - Mick Tingelhoff70 - Jim Marshall77 - Korey Stringer80 - Cris Carter88 - Alan Page That’s a pretty impressive list. . .four Hall of Famers, one guy that damn...

No, Patriots WR Brandin Cooks will not be better than WR Randy Moss

No, Patriots WR Brandin Cooks will not be better than WR Randy Moss

And to even suggest it is preposterous. I can’t believe I have to write this. The New England Patriots acquired WR Brandin Cooks from the New Orleans Saints for a first round pick and some loose change in order to prepare for the future. Cooks is a great receiver that has perfect athleticism and ability for the Patriots offense. I personally think he’s going to fit in like a duck to water. MMQB’s Peter King led off his weekly column by highlighting the Patriots recent transactions and he has a little section about Cooks, where he praises the Patriots for “finding a pissed off...

Wednesday Open Thread: March 1, 2017

Well, we finally have some football news to discuss. Merry Wednesday everyone! Hey, March is finally here, and you know what that means. That’s right, it means very little. Hey, at least spring is getting closer, though. Around the DN since our last open thread: Eric shared the news that the Vikings will not exercise Adrian Peterson’s 2017 option. Bill Polian doesn’t think Randy Moss should be in the Hall of Fame.....which pretty much discredits any opinion he’s ever had, or will ever have again. The Vikings are among the league’s favorites to sign Adrian Peterson, per Chris. I...

Bill Polian doesn’t think Randy Moss should be in the Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame executive doesn’t want two of the best wide receivers to play the game in Canton with him. Today in “Old Man Yells at Cloud” news... Bill Polian is one of the most accomplished executives in the history of the NFL. He served as General Manager of the Buffalo Bills teams that made an unprecedented four straight Super Bowls in the 1990’s. He served a brief stint as GM of the Carolina Panthers, quickly building an expansion team into a contender as the Panthers made the NFC Championship Game in only their second year of existence. That led to Polian being hired for the...

Where does Adrian Peterson rank among Vikings greats -- especially Randy Moss?

The Vikings made an “as expected” move Tuesday in announcing they weren’t picking up Adrian Peterson’s $18 million option for 2017. Even if it was just procedural, though, and the Vikings can still sign Peterson after he hits free agency, the transaction inches us closer to the definite possibility that Peterson has played his final game in purple. None other than Randy Moss — more on him in a minute — has already chimed in saying Peterson would love to play for the Texans. Officially, the end isn’t here yet. But Tuesday’s news has me thinking more about Peterson’s legacy as...

Ex-Patriots executive Michael Lombardi shares light on how the team approaches trades

Ex-Patriots executive Michael Lombardi shares light on how the team approaches trades

The Patriots evaluate differently than other teams. The New England Patriots under head coach Bill Belichick have never shied away from making a trade. Franchise greats Drew Bledsoe, Richard Seymour and Logan Mankins were all traded away, while others like wide receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker were acquired via trade. During the 2016 league year alone, the Patriots have pulled the trigger eight times; not counting draft-day trades only involving picks (New England would have made a ninth trade – center Bryan Stork to the Washington Redskins – but it fell through due to a failed...
