What was going on with that 3rd and 11 handoff to Reggie Bush?

The San Francisco 49ers made a curious play-call against the Green Bay Packers. Any idea why? The San Francisco 49ers have had a lot of issues on offense the past two weeks. The passing game has been the biggest issue, with Colin Kaepernick struggling to do much of anything successfully. It now seems like the coaching staff is losing faith in Kap as well. On Sunday, the 49ers faced a 3rd and 11 at their own 34-yard line in the third quarter while trailing 7-3. They ran a play out of the pistol formation in which Kap handed the ball to Reggie Bush. I am not entirely sure there was a read...

In Praise Of Brandon Weeden

It is going to warp some minds, but the often-derided backup is one player who has indeed stepped up when his team needed him to. Things have not gone very well for the Dallas Cowboys since Tony Romo was injured. After the 2-0 record with him as the starter, they have lost the next two games with Brandon Weeden as the quarterback. Most fans and pundits predicted that the team was in very deep, umm, stuff if Romo was out for any appreciable time. And the level of confidence in Weeden required milliliter graduations to measure. As might be expected, there are questions being asked about...

49ers-Packers inactives: Vernon Davis, Mike Davis, DeAndrew White all inactive

The San Francisco 49ers welcome back running back Reggie Bush and wide receiver Bruce Ellington. We break down what the team's inactive report means. The San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers announced their inactives for Week 4, and as expected, Vernon Davis is inactive. He sat out all three practices this week, and was listed as doubtful on the final injury report. Reggie Bush and Bruce Ellington are both active for the first time since Week 1. Bush injured his calf against the Minnesota Vikings, while Ellington injured his ankle either in that game or in practice the following week....

NFL Sunday Late Games Schedule

The early NFL games are almost over, but the NFL doesn't stop on Sundays. The late game schedule is pretty good this week, with a tough NFC West matchup between the St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals and what should be a scrappy game between the Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos. The big one may be Green Bay at San Francisco: that will either be a blowout for the struggilng 49ers, or one heck of a game if Colin Kaepernick suddenly gets it together again. The late game should be fascinating, though. The 0-3 New Orleans Saints host the Tony Romo-less Dallas Cowboys. Drew Brees may or may...

Giants-Bills Halftime Score: Giants hold 16-3 lead

Use this as your open thread as you try to root the Giants to victory in the second half. Despite the New York Giants victory over the Washington Redskins in week 3, there were questions surrounding the team for 10 days between Thursday night and Sunday afternoon. Could the Giants protect Eli Manning from the Buffalo Bills' aggressive defense? Could the Giants run defense step up and defend the Bills' potent rushing attack? Should they even attempt to run the ball themselves? Through the first half, the answer to all these questions has been a resounding "Yes". Despite heavy pressure from...

Cardinals vs. Rams picks and predictions: What will Sunday's final score be?

Time to see if you are the best at making score predictions. It is Friday afternoon. That means it is prediction time. Based on the first three weeks of the season, the craziest predictions are the best. Arizona beat the Chicago Bears 48-23 and then hammered the San Francisco 49ers 47-7. Those win came after a "nail-biting" 31-19 win over the Saints. So what will happen this week? The St. Louis Rams come to town. After a 34-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks, they have managed only 16 points since then. The offense has less touchdowns (4) than Larry Fitzgerald has himself (5). So use the...

Scouting 49ers scouts: College games the team attended Week 4

Niners Nation's Greg Valerio highlights and profiles the 2016 NFL draft-eligible prospects from college football games 49ers' scouts attended during Week 4. We are continuing our weekly series, Scouting 49ers' Scouts, where each week we will highlight some of the draft-eligible players from the games 49ers' scouts were credentialed. The Internet, and Twitter in particular, provide some insight into where NFL teams are sending scouts for college football games. We will likely never know the full list of games, but it does give us some insight. Thanks to the folks at NFL.com's College...
