The Jets need Robby Anderson to step up in Quincy Enunwa’s absence. Can they expect it to happen?

Robby Anderson’s second season in the NFL was a success. It is always encouraging to see the production of a young player trend up. Anderson’s reception total went up from 42 as a rookie in 2016 to 63 in his second season. His receiving yardage jumped from 587 in 2016 to 941 in 2017. And after only catching 2 touchdown passes as a rookie, he hauled in 7 during his second season. This raised expectations quite a bit coming into year three. If Anderson’s upward trajectory continued, he could emerge as a legitimate go to guy, perhaps even as one the top receivers in the entire...

Jets playing time breakdown against the Colts

Jets playing time breakdown against the Colts

Let’s take a look at playing time figures for Week 6. On the offensive side of the ball, a number of wide receivers saw their playing time tick up considerably. Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse, and Terrelle Pryor were all in for over 60% of Jets offensive snaps. All three saw their playing time go up from a week ago. Part of that was the injury to Quincy Enunwa opening up reps, but this is still worth noting. Meanwhile, the rest of the tight end group took more of a back seat as Neal Sterling returned to the lineup for the first time in over a month. Sterling led tight ends with 36 snaps....

Jets vs Colts: Five Bold Predictions

Jets vs Colts: Five Bold Predictions

Another week, another chance to prove my ability to predict the outcome with perfect accuracy. Well, near perfect accuracy. Or something at least in the vicinity of accuracy. I managed to predict 4 catches and over 100 yards for Robby Anderson and he went for over 100 yards on 3 catches. I predicted 100 yards for Crowell and 2 TDs and he managed to break the Jets single game rushing record without scoring a second TD. At least another week brings another chance. Disclaimer: A Bold Prediction is not something that is likely or probable to happen. Bold Predictions are blind guesses that are...

Jets podcast: Six under the radar performances

Jets podcast: Six under the radar performances

As Jets fans bask in the glow of Sunday’s big win, a number of the game’s stars are receiving high praise. Isaiah Crowell had a historic day running the football. Robby Anderson and Leonard Williams had big statistical days of their own. Morris Claiborne and the offensive line put up quality performances. While acknowledging these encouraging games, on today’s podcast we are going to look in a different direction. The show will focus on players doing things that have not generated a ton of attention. These aren’t all small name players. One in particular is a high profile guy. But...

Jets Week 5 Game Ball: Isaiah Crowell

Jets Week 5 Game Ball: Isaiah Crowell

The Jets won on Sunday, which means it is our happy duty to award a game ball. There were plenty of standout performances which would merit game ball consideration on most weeks, including those of Robby Anderson and Leonard Williams. I think the pick is pretty easy for this game, though. Isaiah Crowell set a new Jets franchise record with 219 rushing yards. He needed only 15 carries to get those yards, leaving him with a ridiculous 14.6 yard average per carry. He became just the fourth player in NFL history to exceed 200 yards in a single game with 15 or fewer carries. The Jets have been...

What was the most important play of the Jets’ win over the Broncos?

What was the most important play of the Jets’ win over the Broncos?

What was the most important play of yesterday’s Week 5 victory for the Jets over Denver? The Jets’ victory was so convincing that it didn’t feel to me like any one particular play was the turning point. Since I am forced to pick one, I am going to go with Sam Darnold’s first touchdown pass to Robby Anderson in the second quarter. Within the context of the game it gave the Jets the lead for the first time, which they would never relinquish. Within the context of the season it might have been even more important. There has been a lot of negativity around the team in recent weeks. One...
