Trufant, Alford battling through rough patches

Back in 2013, Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders was a visitor to the Falcons’ training camp.

Will the Falcons consider a shakeup at cornerback?

Will the Falcons consider a shakeup at cornerback?

Robert Alford and Desmond Trufant are not having good years, but what’s the alternative? The Falcons have not enjoyed a stellar year of cornerback play, which you may have noticed. Games like Cleveland, New Orleans and Cincinnati were decided in large part because corners either failed in coverage, dropped easy picks, or missed tackles, and frustration in the fanbase is starting to boil over. How bad is it? Let’s take where Pro Football Focus ranks the team’s top three cornerbacks. Performance and grades Desmond Trufant: #68 Robert Alford: #109 Brian Poole: #70 Trufant has been...

Falcons vs. Browns: Ricky Ortiz, Matt Bryant top list of inactives

Falcons vs. Browns: Ricky Ortiz, Matt Bryant top list of inactives

The Falcons have Brian Hill up in place of Ortiz, which is interesting. The Atlanta Falcons have a pretty ho-hum list of inactives this week, with Matt Bryant an expected out and Blidi Wreh-Wilson back on the shelf with Robert Alford in the lineup. They’re continuing to mothball Keith Tandy, Steven Means, Rees Odhiambo and Matt Gono, with the first three being emergency options and the last one serving as the developmental tackle for a team that could use one. There is one surprise, though, and it’s Ricky Ortiz. Our inactives today for #ATLvsCLE: pic.twitter.com/74h9HjBLld—...

Alford back for Falcons, Bryant’s out for Browns game

The Falcons figure to be nearly at full strength Sunday when they play at Cleveland, as starting right cornerback Robert Alford will return to the lineup, and coach Dan Quinn said after Friday’s practice that the only player ruled out against the Browns will be kicker Matt Bryant.

Matt Bryant, Mohamed Sanu sat out Wednesday’s practice

It’s a larger concern for Bryant than it is for Sanu. The Falcons were down two noteworthy players at Wednesday’s practice, the first injury report for the week before Atlanta plays the Browns. The first is Mohamed Sanu and the second, unsurprisingly, is Matt Bryant. Falcons injury report: Mohamed Sanu (hip) and Matt Bryant (right hamstring) were the lone non-participants in practice today. Robert Alford (ankle), Damontae Kazee (ankle), Alex Mack (back) and Deadrin Senat (shoulder) were limited.— Jason Butt (@JasonHButt) November 7, 2018 I’m not nearly as concerned by...

Falcons vs. Washington inactives: The Falcons park Alford, Bryant and three OL

Falcons vs. Washington inactives: The Falcons park Alford, Bryant and three OL

It’s a curious move with the team’s depth issues. The Atlanta Falcons are about to square off against the Washington Redskins, and they’ll be down their starting kicker and one of their starting cornerbacks when they do so. They’ll also, interestingly enough, be rolling with just two reserve offensive linemen. Robert Alford and Matt Bryant were expected to be out for this one, but the Falcons are also sitting Brian Hill and Steven Means at running back and defensive end, leaving Ito Smith and Tevin Coleman at RB and Vic Beasley, Takk McKinley, Brooks Reed and Derrick Shelby at...

Inactives: Falcons at Redskins

The Falcons declared cornerback Robert Alford and kicker Matt Bryant out on Friday so that was not a surprise when the inactive players were released 90 minutes before kickoff on Sunday.

The Isaiah Oliver experience starts Sunday in Washington for Falcons

The Isaiah Oliver experience starts Sunday in Washington for Falcons

With Robert Alford out, we’ll get our best look at Oliver to date. With starting cornerback Robert Alford out with an ankle injury this week, the Isaiah Oliver experience is about to begin for the Atlanta Falcons Oliver, the team’s second-round and rumored potential first-round pick out of Colorado, has played sparingly through the season, which isn’t all that uncommon for young cornerbacks. The team has plenty talent at the position on the roster, though they clearly have an eye out for Oliver down the road with what he can do. Sunday at Washington, he’s going to get his best...

Washington will be without three key players against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday

Washington will be without three key players against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday

Trent Williams, Chris Thompson and Jamison Crowder are all scheduled to be out of the game. The Falcons are so banged up it’s almost laughable at this point, as they’re randomly down Robert Alford coming out of a bye week that was supposed to help them get healthy. But we can’t wallow too much, because the Falcons have won two in a row and other teams have plenty of injuries to deal with. Case in point: Washington, this week’s opponent for the Falcons, who will be down their star left tackle, a terrific receiving back who might have been able to eat against this Atlanta defense,...

Matt Bryant ruled out against Washington

The Falcons will once again turn to Giorgio Tavecchio for kicking duties. The Falcons were hopeful that Matt Bryant and his balky hamstring would be ready to go after the bye week. We unfortunately learned today that the Falcons’ kicker is still not fit to go, so Giorgio Tavecchio will resume kicking duties against Washington. The #Falcons will be without Robert Alford and Matt Bryant on Sunday, and you can see the rest of their injury report from Friday here. https://t.co/2pGBQ15HzF— William McFadden (@willmcfadden) November 2, 2018 Bryant is still recovering from a strained...

Falcons vs. Washington: Robert Alford looks like he’ll be sitting out Week 9

Falcons vs. Washington: Robert Alford looks like he’ll be sitting out Week 9

Isaiah Oliver is up with a chance at making a case for more playing time. Robert Alford was at practice on Friday, but he wasn’t wearing a helmet and wasn’t running. The natural assumption is that without practice on Friday, Alford won’t suit up Sunday, and all signs point to that outcome. Vaughn McClure at ESPN reports on Twitter that Alford will be out out for Sunday, and appends an ominous note to that. Robert Alford can’t run at all. Will be interesting to see how long he’s out. Falcons vs. Redskins: Channel, announcers, kickoff time, and key questions for Week 9

Falcons vs. Redskins: Channel, announcers, kickoff time, and key questions for Week 9

The 5-2 Redskins will host the 3-4 Falcons, who are looking to get to .500 and continue their bizarre season. The Atlanta Falcons resume their 2018 season with a game against the AFC East-leading Washington football squad, who are probably not as good as their record would indicate. That doesn’t guarantee anything, of course. The Falcons head into this game still down some of their key players, and now with Robert Alford and Matt Bryant questionable to play, they’re at significantly less than full strength. Washington will attempt to take advantage of that by grinding this shaky...
