Bengals address their biggest need in latest SB Nation mock draft

Bengals address their biggest need in latest SB Nation mock draft

There is an obvious position where the Bengals, and the rest of the NFL, know they need to address via the draft. SB Nation was kind enough to give the Bengals one of the top players at that position. The Bengals have a few glaring needs going into the draft this year. They need to add some speed to the linebacker position. They need a run stuffer to pair next to Geno Atkins. They could also use an upgrade at right guard, but most of all they need a center. The team’s starting center for four years, Russell Bodine, departed for Buffalo in free agency. That leaves pretty much only T.J....

Bengals’ needs by position heading into the NFL Draft

Bengals’ needs by position heading into the NFL Draft

The Bengals have made a flurry of moves so far this off-season. What positions do they still need to address, and how will they look to do so? The Bengals have added a few new names to the team through free agency and trades. They have also seen several of their players’ contracts expire and sign elsewhere. There has been a lot of movement along the roster but maybe the most important change is the one at center, with a starting job that needs to be filled. Russell Bodine is gone and the Bengals’ top need may now be at the center position, a position that has seen serious struggles...

Russell Bodine’s contract shows he’s essentially a roster lock

Russell Bodine’s contract shows he’s essentially a roster lock

With his entire 2018 salary already paid, why cut him? The last Buffalo Bills contract we hadn’t published details on is finally available. We knew Russell Bodine signed for two years and $5 million but we didn’t know the structure of the deal until Mike Rodak tweeted the pertinent information Friday afternoon. Bodine received a $1 million signing bonus and his 2018 salary of $1.15 million fully guaranteed. He’ll be on the roster this September, or he’ll receive the same amount of money either way. He can also earn a $200,000 workout bonus this offseason and up to $275,000 in...

Podcast: Bengals triumphantly marching through the offseason

Podcast: Bengals triumphantly marching through the offseason

How much have the Bengals improved this offseason? Is there such a thing as “addition by subtraction”, and if so, have the Bengals achieved this with the departures of Russell Bodine and Adam Jones? It’s been a more active March than usual for the Cincinnati Bengals, and we’re trying to digest all of the moves. Even though many of the moves seem to have improved the club, there are still major questions going forward. On this week’s episode of The Orange and Black Insider, we talked about the state of this new-look team and what may be ahead over the next few weeks. Have their...

James Daniels is the ideal replacement for Russell Bodine on the Bengals’ o-line

James Daniels is the ideal replacement for Russell Bodine on the Bengals’ o-line

Athleticism at the center position matters more than you would think, and that’s just one thing the 20-year-old Daniels can bring to an offensive line. In a matter of one week, the Buffalo Bills managed to fix the two biggest problems on the Bengals’ offensive line. First, the two teams swapped first round picks along with day three picks in a deal that sent Cordy Glenn to Cincinnati to start; as such, Cedric Ogbuehi is no longer the team’s starting left tackle. Seven days later, the Bills agreed to terms with Russell Bodine on a two-year deal. All of the sudden, the left side of the...
