The Drive: Russell Wilson’s New Style

The Drive: Russell Wilson’s New Style

One forges one’s style on the terrible anvil of daily deadlines. —Email Zola I’m battling a stomach bug, so this will be short. Late last season Russell Wilson began stepping up into the pocket in a most peculiar manner. Unlike I’ve ever seen him do. Unlike I’ve ever seen anyone do. He seemed to be experimenting. The move was never used against Dallas in the Wild Card. Maybe it was a failed experiment never to be repeated again. But I found it interesting. [Proceeds to search condensed games for over two hours] Well, shucks. I can’t find a single incidence of him doing it. The...

Seahawks officially sign QB Geno Smith

Seahawks officially sign QB Geno Smith

The search for Russell Wilson’s new backup appears to have a frontrunner. On Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks officially announced that they’ve signed former New York Jets draft bust Geno Smith to a contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although I’m sure one of the NFL insiders will have details on this in due time. Smith spent the 2018 season with the Los Angeles Chargers, throwing all of four regular season passes, completing one for eight yards. He’s best known for being the New York Jets’ starting QB from 2013-2014, but poor play and a torn ACL in 2016 led to the end...

Seahawks congratulate Blazers on amazing game 7 comeback

Seahawks congratulate Blazers on amazing game 7 comeback

I recently said that the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers as having Seahawk-y traits that I can’t quite describe. Perhaps the best I can come up with is they’re a hybrid of the 2018 and 2012 Seattle squads. My brain is racing far too much for me to really get any deeper than “Zach Collins is a Legion of Boom defender playing NBA basketball” and “Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined are silencing their remaining doubters wrong much like Russell Wilson did in 2018.” Anyway, the Blazers had the ultimate Pete Carroll era Seahawks trait of never giving up even when faced with an...

Seahawks release Doug Baldwin

Seahawks release Doug Baldwin

The Seattle Seahawks released Doug Baldwin on Thursday with a failed physical, potentially bringing an end to one of the most unexpected “Hall of Great At Least” careers we’ve ever seen. Baldwin, an undrafted free agent out of Stanford in 2011, immediately took over as the Seahawks number one receiver as a rookie when Mike Williams proved to be a one-year wonder in Pete Carroll’s first season. When Seattle drafted Russell Wilson in 2012 the pair didn’t connect at all, as Baldwin went from 788 yards in year one to 366, but as the relationship grew so did Baldwin’s uncanny ability...

Looking at what Bobby Wagner could ask for in an extension

Looking at what Bobby Wagner could ask for in an extension

The Seattle Seahawks entered the offseason with four big matters to address with players who contracts are set to expire after the 2019 season, including quarterback Russell Wilson, defensive end Frank Clark, defensive tackle Jarran Reed and middle linebacker Bobby Wagner. They are halfway through that list, with the Wilson and Clark situations resolved, and now they can turn their attention to Reed and Wagner. Today I’ll start with a basic look at the arguments behind why Wagner could command a significant raise in an extension, and in a separate piece in the future will look at the...

Report: Bobby Wagner won’t be giving a hometown discount

When the offseason began, the Seattle Seahawks had four big contract situations to address, including quarterback Russell Wilson, defensive end Frank Clark, defensive tackle Jarran Reed and middle linebacker Bobby Wagner. Wilson and Wagner are longtime Hawks who helped the team win one Super Bowl, and continue to represent the core of the both the offense and the defense for the team. Clark and Reed, meanwhile, represent up and coming talent on a defense looking to rebuild in the wake of the dismantling of the Legion of Boom. Or, at least they were until the Seahawks traded Clark to the...

Seahawks rookie WR D.K. Metcalf was ‘amazed, kind of shocked’ to get call from Russell Wilson

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf evidently had enough confidence to take off his shirt in a pre-draft meeting with the Seahawks but receiving a call from his quarterback Russell Wilson was still a bit shocking to him. After being drafted in the second round with the 64th overall pick, Wilson FaceTimed him, which caught […] The post Seahawks rookie WR D.K. The Seahawks chose 11 players in the 2019 NFL Draft. Did Seattle choose wisely or poorly this year? The Seahawks had some really needs to fill in the 2019 NFL Draft.
