Jets Offseason Moves: Team Keeps A in 2015 Offseason Regrade

Mike Sando of ESPN gave the Jets an A grade for their offseason last year. With a year of hindsight, he is keeping the A. Offseason grade: A The Jets' first year under general manager Mike Maccagnan and coach Todd Bowles showed what can happen when a struggling team uses all potential avenues for improvement. The Jets went from the bottom 10 to the top 10 in both offensive and defensive expected points added. Trades for quarterbackRyan Fitzpatrick and receiver Brandon Marshall paid off big. Spending in free agency often backfires, but the Jets fared well there too, upgrading their...

New York Jets Offseason: Todd Bowles Speaks About Ryan Fitzpatrick

Dom Cosentino caught up with Jets head coach Todd Bowles at the Senior Bowl and asked him about the team's starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. "Fans are going to feel like that," Bowles told NJ Advance Media in an interview at the Senior Bowl. "That's with any sport, in any thing: If you're team doesn't win the last game to get in the playoffs, there's going to be an effect from a fan's standpoint. And we respect that. "But we have won with him. We won some good games, and we lost some games. That's any quarterback. Ryan's not the only guy who had a bad game. There's a lot of people...

New York Jets Offseason: Why Contract Structure Matters

Last night we discussed the concept a dead money a bit. This leads into another topic, the structure of contracts. Whenever a player signs a new contract, you frequently hear people say, "We need to see how the contract is structured." That is true. Sometimes a contract is not what it seems on the surface. Let me give you an example. Imagine tomorrow you hear that Ryan Fitzpatrick has signed a 4 year, $100 million contract. Twitter would explode. Jets fans would be furious. Even those who see the wisdom in keeping Fitzpatrick as a stopgap are going to be upset with making him the highest...

Naming Geno Smith the starting quarterback Since Ryan Fitzpatrick started all sixteen games, it is easy to forget that in May the coaching staff indicated Geno Smith would be the starting quarterback in 2015. That changed. We all know what happened. This was a move that didn't end up hurting the team. Still, we saw why this was a poor decision in vivid display as the season went along. Geno...

New York Jets Offseason: Best Coaching Moves of 2015

As we continue our look back at 2015 for the Jets, let us turn our attention to coaching. Todd Bowles and his staff surprised most by winning 10 games in year one. What were the best coaching moves the Jets made this season? Moving Eric Decker to the slot Before the season, many of us wondered how the Jets would utilize their talent at wide receiver. There was plenty of speculation that the Jets might move Brandon Marshall around to create favorable matchups. The Jets ended up not mixing things up that much. Ryan Fitzpatrick indicated the offense started to take off when the team simplified...

Carr again led a fourth-quarter comeback drive and threw a touchdown pass with 1:21 remaining to defeat the Tennessee Titans on the road in Week 12. Carr is the owner of 53 career touchdown passes, the second most ever by a player through his first two NFL seasons.
