Jets vs. Redskins Recap: Bryce Petty and Geno Smith Showed Backup QB Job Might Be Up for Grabs

Last night's game might have opened up the race to be Ryan Fitzpatrick's backup quarterback job a bit. Geno Smith had a rough game, while Bryce Petty played his way into the discussion for the job. We still have two weeks to go, and my guess is Smith remains the favorite. Let's take a look at how this became a real competition last night. On his first throw of the evening, Geno was looking for Jalin Marshall. It looks to me like Geno throws late and gives the defender an opportunity to jump all over this. The ball should probably be coming out around this point if Geno is...

Immature Geno Smith showing how to lose a backup QB job

LANDOVER , Md. — The contrast in backup quarterbacks on this night was so stark, so neon-bright it was borderline blinding. There was Geno Smith, in the midst of a second consecutive summer of discontent, playing such uneven football it has to make Jets fans shiver at the thought of starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick being...

NY Jets: Fitzpatrick's Regression

If Ryan Fitzpatrick regresses in 2016, in what areas will that show up? Despite the mantra you hear on a daily basis by sports analysts, Ryan Fitzpatrick did not have a career year in 2015.  Yes, he had a pretty good year for him and for any recent Jets quarterbacks.  However, his 2014 season numbers were pretty clearly better.  In addition, after adjusting for the level of pass defenses faced, and given the much worse weapons around him, 2010 and 2012 were probably better in terms of Fitzpatrick's play than 2015. The fact that Ryan Fitzpatrick did not have a career year in 2015...

Does Dexter McDougle's Injury Hurt His Chances of Making the Team?

Jets cornerback Dexter McDougle is dealing with a hamstring injury. Head coach Todd Bowles was asked yesterday whether it hurts McDougle's chances to make the team as the third year corner might not be a lock. On how McDougle’s injury hurts his chances to make the team… It’s unfortunate. We know what he can do. We know what he’s capable of. It just gives other guys opportunity. Sometimes opportunity comes by injury, by holdout, or by suspension. We just monitor the guys that are playing and we’ll try to get him back healthy when we can. It is an interesting take. The Jets aren't...

Matt Forte looks good in Jets moment he’s waited for

The Jets finally got to see new running back Matt Forte on the field during team drills on Wednesday. Forte, who has been out since the beginning of training camp with a hamstring injury, looked good in the practice. He caught several passes from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and burst through the holes on running plays....

Christian Hackenberg Likely to Play Against Washington

Jets head coach Todd Bowles indicated rookie quarterback Christian Hackenberg is likely to see playing time in Friday night's preseason game. On if he would like to get Christian Hackenberg reps on Friday… That’s the plan. We’ll see how it works out. Hackenberg did not play in the preseason opener against Jacksonville. One drawback of having four quarterbacks is the limited amount of reps to go around. Hackenberg needs development, and the preseason is the only chance he will likely get this season to play in a game situation. The Jets need to get Ryan Fitzpatrick prepared to...

Jets Win Preseason Opener Against Jaguars

After an offseason in which the team didn’t know who their starting quarterback would be after a contract impasse with Ryan Fitzpatrick, plenty of Jets fans were happy the team was able to resign Fitzpatrick, and they showed it during the team’s first preseason game of the year. Even though the Jets are NFL expert […]

Fantasy Football 2016: 6 high-reward players to target in your draft

With fantasy season fast approaching, we examine some buy-low candidates who could be in for big years. If you've never seriously jeopardized a friendship over fantasy football, then you probably aren't doing it totally right. Bragging about your fantasy prowess is decidedly lame, but there is just something magical about hand-picking the dude who manages massively outproduce his average draft position (ADP). Take New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall, for example. Last season, a team change and the uncertainty of playing in a Ryan Fitzpatrick-orchestrated offense forced fantasy owners to...

More Value In Seeing Petty Play Than Seeing Hackenberg Play

With one pre-season game down, there are some questions being asked about the status of Hackenberg. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith and Bryce Petty all saw game action against the Jaguars last week, but newly drafted QB Christian Hackenberg was left on the sideline, failing to enter the game at QB at all. I've seen some fans question the coaches for holding Hackenberg out of the game, but if you really think about it...it makes perfect sense for the Jets. One of the main questions at camp at the moment revolves around whether the Jets are going to keep all four quarterbacks. Of those...
