NY Jets: What Are The Terms Of Fitzpatrick's Offer?

Let's see if we can put together a reasonable facsimile of Ryan Fitzpatrick's contract offer. Today we got word that the Jets have offered Ryan Fitzpatrick a three year deal with $12 million in guaranteed money paid in the first year of the contract.  That seemed to contradict earlier reports that the Jets were offering Fitzpatrick about $8 million.  But there is only a contradiction if we assume the $8 million figure refers to a one year deal. Let's assume both reports are accurate.  Then we have the Jets offering Fitzpatrick about $8 million per year over three years for a total of $24...

Fitzpatrick should come home — and Jets can fix small, legit beef

Ryan Fitzpatrick should take the money and run back home. It turns out this isn’t a lowball offer after all from the Jets — one year, $12 million guaranteed, $36 million over three years with incentives. It is considerably higher than the $8 million ballpark figure league executives guessed would be on the table when...

Jets’ offer to Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t the reported lowball

The Post has learned from two NFL sources the Jets are offering quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick a three-year contract with $12 million guaranteed in the first year. That deal, according to the sources, has been sitting in the lap of Fitzpatrick’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, for about four months. With the current deal offered, Fitzpatrick could earn up...

Ryan Fitzpatrick may have upper hand in negotiations with Jets

Mike Maccagnan stood underneath the 200-year-old oak tree that rests in the middle of the Jets’ practice fields this week, enjoying some shade on a 90-degree day while watching his Jets go through an OTA practice. It is understandable if Maccagnan, the second-year general manager, is feeling the heat. The Jets are locked in a...

Jets OTA Updates 5/26

Today is the last day of OTA's for the Jets until next week. With us deep into the offseason program, it felt like a good time to throw up a thread so people can keep track of any developments at OTA's. Yesterday was a busy day for the Jets. Geno Smith, the starter for now at least, reportedly looked very good. A number of key players were missing from OTA's. These events are voluntary so that is not a huge deal. Nick Mangold's wife was giving birth. A notable absence was from Eric Decker. Brian Costello reported Decker's absence was due to the Ryan Fitzpatrick standoff. Brandon Marshall...

Report: Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jets Getting Closer to Deal

Mike Freeman reports the Jets are getting closer to a contract agreement with free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Ryan Fitzpatrick is telling reporters he wants to return to the Jets, and a league source told me the two sides were getting closer to some type of deal. Now, I say this with great caution. Contract talks ebb and flow, like poop in a sewer system. But it seems that both sides are starting to realize something important: The power rests with neither of them. Fitzpatrick has little bargaining room, because no other team wants to pay him what he believes he's worth. The Jets...

Jets veteran WRs are skipping practice as protest over their QB situation

The Patriots rival is struggling to field a viable quarterback. Practice was voluntary for the New York Jets, but the wide receivers wanted to make a statement: the quarterback situation in New York is abysmal. Eric Decker skipped OTAs this week because he is upset the organization has yet to sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, according to a source. #nyj — Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) May 26, 2016 Brian Costello of the NY Post reports that veteran wide receiver Eric Decker is skipping practice this week because he wants the team to sign quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Eric Decker protesting Jets over Fitzpatrick — and it looks like fun

Eric Decker is throwing a Fitz. The Jets wide receiver is staying away from this week’s voluntary OTA practices as a form of protest over Ryan Fitzpatrick remaining unsigned, according to a source.
