Eagles looking at running backs in first round

The Philadelphia Eagles are hosting projected first-round picks, Louisiana State University running back Leonard Fournette and Florida State University running back Dalvin Cook, on Friday. What It Means: The Eagles' backfield currently consists of oft-injured Ryan Mathews, 2016 fifth-round pick Wendell Smallwood and 34-year-old (in June) ancillary back Darren Sproles, so investing the 14th overall pick in the position wouldn't be a bad idea. Fournette is projected to go somewhere in the top-10, but Cook's stock has dropped a bit after an underwhelming Combine performance....

Ryan Mathews likely to be cut or traded by Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews has "probably played his last game for the Eagles," the Philadelphia Inquirer says. What It Means: Mathews is owed a non-guaranteed $4 million salary coming off a serious neck injury, and releasing him would leave $1 million in dead money. Entering his age-30 season, it's going to take a pay cut for him to return. Head coach Doug Pederson said Wendell Smallwood is "in the mix" at running back, as well.
