Lions vs. Packers inactive: Eddie Lacy inactive, Sam Shields returns

The Packers' former starting tailback won't play Sunday. The Green Bay Packers continue to describe their backfield as a one-two punch, but one of the key ingredients won't play Sunday against the Detroit Lions. The team listed former starting running back Eddie Lacy as inactive, his first deactivation of the season. Head coach Mike McCarthy announced earlier this week that James Starks had earned the opportunity to work as the lead back, and that indeed appears to be the case. The only other tailback active for Sunday is rookie Alonzo Harris. At cornerback, both Sam Shields and Quinten...

Sam Shields making progress, hopes to play against Detroit

Packers cornerback Sam Shields said he was able to move around well in practice Wednesday and felt that his injured shoulder was improving enough that he could play Sunday against Detroit.

Shields says shoulder improving, brace likely if he plays

Green Bay - Cornerback Sam Shields said he was able to move around pretty well in practice Wednesday and felt that his injured shoulder was improving enough that he could play Sunday against Detroit.

Packers injury report: Sam Shields downgraded to doubtful

Green Bay expects to take the field without their top cornerback on Sunday. It looks increasingly unlikely that the Green Bay Packers will have the services of their top cornerback when the team takes the field against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Green Bay downgraded Sam Shields to doubtful Saturday, as the corner's shoulder continues to bother him. The team expects rookie Quinten Rollins, who suffered a neck injury last weekend in Denver, to join him on the sideline. The injuries leave Casey Hayward, Micah Hyde, Damarious Randall, Demetri Goodson and LaDarius Gunter as the only...

Packers downgrade Shields, Montgomery, Rollins to doubtful

Green Bay - It didn't look very likely that CB Sam Shields (shoulder) was going to be able to play Sunday against Carolina, but now it's all but official that he won't.

Packers Injury Report: Matthews Probable, Cornerbacks Questionable for Panthers game

If they can't practice on Saturday, look for Sam Shields and Quinten Rollins to be inactive on Sunday. The Green Bay Packers announced their weekly injury report on Friday, and it was one of the shorter lists that we have seen all season long. Unfortunately, that report still features a handful of starters as well as a couple of critical contributors who would be missed if absent. Thankfully, no player is listed lower than questionable for this week's game - for now. As usual, the team did not practice on Friday and will instead conduct their final practice of the week on Saturday to...

Sam Shields considered 'day-to-day' with shoulder injury, per report

The Packers' top corner shouldn't miss much time. The Green Bay Packers may have dropped their first game of the season on Sunday night, but it could have been much worse. Cornerback Sam Shields left the game during the first half with a shoulder injury and never returned to action. However, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Shields avoided a major injury and is considered "day-to-day." Shields, the Packers top cover man, is a valuable piece of their defense whose absence was felt against the Denver Broncos. In his stead, fourth-year cornerback Casey Hayward spent most of the evening...

Who is Giants' vocal leader on defense?

If a game like Sunday's had taken place in the last few years, all the reporters who cover the team would have known whom to approach afterwards. Antrel Rolle, Justin Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka, Deon Grant or any of the other veterans who were able to speak for the defensive unit from the perspective of leadership would have delivered the key soundbite. Guys who had been around a while, seen enough and had the clout to be able to criticize the performance without sounding whiny or accusatorial.

Injuries quickly leave Packers thin at cornerback

Cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt’s worst nightmare occurred in the second series when Sam Shields suffered a shoulder injury and didn’t return.

Packers vs. Broncos: Sam Shields questionable to return with shoulder injury

The Packers might be short on cornerbacks tonight. Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields left Sunday's matchup against the Denver Broncos with a shoulder injury and his return to the game is questionable, the Packers announced. Shields suffered the injury and limped off the field on the Packers' second defensive drive against the Broncos. He was taken to the locker room shortly after. The Broncos capped an 83-yard drive resulting in a 1-yard touchdown run by Ronnie Hillman. With Shields' status for the remainder of the game unclear, the Packers will insert rookie Damarious Randall into...
