May 22, 2013Jets Blog | ESPN New York FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The Jets' first open OTA practice Wednesday looked a lot like many of their games last season -- their best receivers were on the sideline. Starters Santonio Holmes (foot rehab) and Stephen Hill (knee swelling) didn't practice. Neither did Clyde Gates (hamstring) and Jordan White (undisclosed). "We had a good-looking receiving corps that wasn't out there," Rex Ryan said. Holmes' absence was expected, as he's still recovering from a LisFranc injury that required surgery last September.

Behind the Steel Curtain The spring of 2010 was one of the most turbulent in recent Steelers offseason memory. By the time the final minicamp session ended, the Steelers had traded its leading receiver, Santonio Holmes to the Jets after a string of issues, including a four-game suspension for a violation of the league's substances abuse policy. Ben Roethlisberger had been accused for a second time of sexual assault, this time, after an incident in Milledgeville, Ga. Starting right tackle Willie Colon had torn his Achilles in workouts and was lost for the year. Same for promising young wide receiver Limas Sweed...

Gang Green Nation Mark Sanchez got an endorsement for the starting quarterback job yesterday from Santonio Holmes. Appearing on the NBC Sports Network, Holmes was asked who the team’s starting quarterback is. "Right now, it's Sanchez, and that's who we're going with, and we're going to continue on this road until time permits," Holmes said in his first public comments since last season. It wasn't the most ringing endorsement, but it is still kind of meaningful that Holmes would single out Sanchez instead of a generic, "We've got a lot of great quarterbacks competing against each other." There are a ...

New York Jets May 8, 2013Jets Blog | ESPN New York Mercurial WR Santonio Holmes, who famously clashed with Mark Sanchez at the end of the 2011 season, gave his endorsement Wednesday to Sanchez in the looming quarterback competition. Gang Green Nation When the New York Jets drafted Geno Smith, I know some of you were like: After all, the last quarterback buttfumbled, and this guy is like: But to all the non-believers, I'm like: I mean, the last quarterback couldn't even hit wide open receivers, and Geno's like: And, believe it or not, he can actually look off receivers and hit checkdowns like: And he can keep a play alive by being all mobile-like: He'll be able to hit Santonio Holmes in the end zone like: Don't forget how tough he is! Even when he literally loses his head he's like: And he can bomb it deep where only the re...

April 20, 2013The Huddle New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes likely will be released next offseason because he is scheduled to count $10.75 million against the salary cut in 2014. He took a $3 million pay cut in order to remain with the team for the 2013 season. Huddle Up: That's a lot of money to pay a wideout when your quarterback has trouble getting him the ball. That Holmes is a short-timer could also impact what the Jets do in the draft, as this year's class is deep at the receiver position.
April 20, 2013Rotoworld Santonio Holmes (foot) is not participating in voluntary workouts, as expected.
